It’s my understanding the GG Mini started out as a Sega Toys initiative and had nothing to do with the MD mini project, which may explain why it seems so gimmicky. M2 was later brought in at the suggestion of Sega games side for quality reasons. I can’t imagine getting one of these. OTOH I’ve been pondering buying a recapped/screen-modded honest to goodness real Game Gear, so perhaps I am sick in the head!
Last night I played Neutopia for a couple of hours on the TG mini, so that ended up being a nice use-case for me! Of all of them, I feel like the TG is the one that has the highest ratio of “games I am still interested in but never put enough time into back when, so I want to play them now.” OK, that’s a weird metric, but it’s resulting in the most play for me.
I have most buyers’ remorse over the MD Mini. I bought a Japanese one and it has too many text-heavy untranslated games I am never going to touch (I’m sure Dyna Brothers is interesting, but…) I would ironically have been happier with the Genesis mini. I was expecting more weird action game choices on the MD Mini (Amazon preorders were only available before the lineup was fully announced) but got more weird…strategy game choices.
