connrrr OH! iyashikei-like games?? That’s my whole brand!
- Legend of the River King , GB or PS2 games. PS2 is extremely laid back
- Basically everything from my MOTHER-likes thread
- You already mentioned AC. Give the N64 one a try if you haven’t
- Marvelous Treasure Island
- the ones the homies already mentioned, Ihatovo Monogatari and A Short Hike
- Cubivore, what I’ve been playing lately. very relaxed feeling most of the time.
Oh, but you were talking about anime… It seems like you may have more to teach me about Iyashikei slice of life stuff! I would recommend watching all of the Zatoichi films. Here’s a couple obscure bangers:
- The Way Home (2002 Korean film)
- Not One Less (1999 Chinese Film) and all films by the director, Zhang Yimou
- FLCL, lol
The Iyashikei boom predated the early 2000’s “return to small towns” movement declared by the emperor, which lead to a lot of this stuff around that time, that’s why I mention FLCL as well. The manga is also highly recommended.
…. And… IDK! Sounds like you may wanna go camping IRL haha! When I want to get out but can’t, I watch Shiey videos. That’s my go-to, but I haven’t tried that hard to find other similar well-produced wilderness exploration videos.
Funbil
If you haven’t played Goemon, aside for the obvious thematic similarity, it’s a non-shooter with a similar cadence of action. Although very little can match the perfection of Pocky & Rocky, I’d put the first Goemon game on SFC and the second on N64 in similar regard. They’re much more forgiving too.
Also, Shiren the Wanderer is similar almost entirely in theme rather than gameplay, but the superficial similarities amount to a similar vibe on the super famicom.
But if I had to pick an 8-way shooter, you know there’s a bunch of other kikikaikai games!
