and not to speak for whoever asked the proust question but that has some interesting angles: Proust spent 20 years in self-imposed isolation in his apartment working obsessively on his novel, so who would be the VG equivalent. Also had a famously dedicated translator, and lots of people bluff about having read his huge book, so could be the VG analogue to those things….
