I’m sighing the world’s biggest sigh because I just bought Nocturne too, despite being underwater once again with my games backlog. I swear I’ll start once I finish Famicom Detective Club!
Speaking of Persona 2, I came across this fairly interesting essay that goes through how queer for its time Persona 2 is, something I had honestly forgotten about (It’s been close to 20 years since I played either game).
Seeing Persona 2’s art style just now made me recall how at first I didn’t love Kaneko’s work, but as I’ve played these games over the years, it slowly grew on me until he became one of my absolute favourites. And as far as I can detect, the things I love about it now are pretty much exactly the things I didn’t care for at first: the odd kind of alien emotionlessness of the human characters, the impractically designed demons (especially once you get further up into the higher level ones), and the bonkers fashions. I’m really not sure what was up with me from 20+ years ago!
