I wonder how many of those KID action games had Yagawa involved. Wikipedia lists him as programmer on Low G Man and Kick Master, but I can’t find another source for that.

Megaten fans might remember that Atlus organized two concerts for the 25th anniversary of the franchise (conveniently its 30th anniversary if you go back to the old testament pre-Atlus games). One was a rock concert, played in a rock concert hall, with covers of the various Chaos-related themes in the series. That one was broadcast live on NicoNico, and it unveiled the first true trailer and title reveal for Shin Megami Tensei V. You can watch it here:

I was there, but I was also at the other concert, performed at the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra with a gigantic pipe organ as its centerpiece, to cover the Law-themed themes of the series. That concert has sadly not been streamed, and never been released by Atlus in any official capacity so far, and it’s a damn shame. It ended with a wonderful encore of about four tunes unannounced on the program, and the very last piece they played was an insane live cover of Battle Theme C5, the optional Archangel fight from SMT4, which itself was a very clever remix of the law themes from SMT and SMT2. Imagine this track below performed with a full philharmonic suite, blasting pipe organ and real chorists going Hallelujah, in a perfect acoustic environment. One of the most memorable concert chills of my life.

Yeah, it’d be interesting to see the Yagawa->KID nes overlap. I know he wasn’t on the G.I. Joe games. I was hoping for some shmuplations.com interviews with him, but they’re all cave-related.

@◉◉maru I would’ve loved to see that tokyo philharmonic one!! This concert is cool and I totally would’ve attended, but I’m less interested in the SMT rock stuff than I am the extra weirdo stuff. If they played this song it would’ve blown my brains out.

Fun story about that song - I was driving through SF blasting this out of my car at top volume. I was sitting at a red light and a super decked out goth walked by, heard the music, and looked over. This was when I was still dressed, how shall we say, “dark scenester” style. I gave a little salute and she gave a little curtsy and walked along. Nice goth connection moment!

Also wow, this Marathon 2 theme is so extremely of an era, I love it.

I cannot believe I hadn’t heard this yet but for Fzero X, nIntendo released a guitar arrangement of the game’s OST. which is incredible

This is a nice compliment to the Fusion Jazz album that Nintendo commissioned for the SNES version of the game’s OST

I’ve recently begun playing through all of the main Dragon Quest games in order and it has rekindled my love for the games’ aesthetic and music. My first exposure was Dragon Warrior Monsters on Game Boy Color, which has, I think, the perfect town theme. (It’s been stuck in my head for like, 20 years)

You know, how about I just post the entire soundtracks to G-Darius (which I’ve been obsessed with these past few days) and RayCrisis (because the game’s basically a mix tape in ludic form)?

Thanks to everyone for continuing to give me stuff to listen to while working! I’m enjoying this interstate ’76 soundtrack!! I will admit I did not expect the lead musician to be the third eye blind bass player.

And elleguro (liz) is real cool, she did the SFX for oh deer. We went retro game hunting in portland a couple years back and she spotted a copy of mr mosquito before I did and it was $5. I was jealous as heck. I bought it a year later for $30 which was still cheaper than the going rate. games are too expensive.

Zuntata has always been up and down for me - I love the raycrisis series, but once you get back to original darius those synths are just too harsh for me. darius gaiden and all though, pretty cool.
