On the topic, just found out about this: The 16-Bit Audiophile Project

They’re recording audio from 16-bit console hardware. Their site goes into the technical details for those interested. Music is available on their website in FLAC and MP3 files, as well as on their YouTube channel.

I’ve been going through a HUGE PCE soundtrack archive (See here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC21WUYoVBZNb7Qi4EcGn3Kw/videos) and came across this soundtrack which is just super sad:

formation soccer ’95, full of new jack swing, cool chooms, etc, but RUINED by a 2 second white noise loop of crowd noise that’s louder than all the music itself. lord! what a shame.

this was also done with j-league tremendous soccer ’94 (which is a great name)

somebody out there has got to have the “pre-noise” versions of these

exodus Sports games got some good ass music. Those crowd noises are annoying as heck but essential for the title music for Davis Cup Tennis. The composer is totally on a mission here.

here’s another cool project! This channel is uploading really high quality N64 music. From their channel description:

Everything here was recorded with new methods from scratch. These are not game/CD/vinyl/etc. rips, nor were they made from USF files or SoundFonts. USF files are like taking the synthesis engine out of the game, whereas my process is more like giving the game a whole new engine that has been super charged.

In many cases the original composers/developers provided direct assistance, and all videos adhere to all Nintendo guidelines.

The goal is to preserve these songs in a crisp clear format that should stand the test of time a little better.

Wild how much time and effort this must have taken to get to this point. Not sure how I feel about these when compared to the original in game versions, but it’s interesting if nothing else.

KennyL I really like the fanart sections of the Ultra Box discs. Genuine fanart straight from the early-mid 90s.

So it may not be the most polished of shmups, but The Great Ragtime Show/Boogie Wings has this Data East charm, the cool mechanic of hitching yourself a ride if your plane got destroyed and some really catchy tunes.

I also have the ChoRenSha 68K in regular rotation as “something to listening while working” music. Really excellent job from a composer I wish I knew more about.

man i can’t believe all these were sampled. maybe i don’t really understand how it works but if the SNES had its own “internal” instruments it seems weird to have not used them for the system’s first game, and instead do something that would have made memory management a much bigger headache

as far as i can understand from the article, all SNES sounds were sampled. huge surprise to me!

Oh man, I am a HUGE fan of the music in Persona 5. To a level that is probably super annoying to anyone around me when I remember how much I freakin’ love it. SO GOOD. Sometimes I wonder to myself if I’m playing Persona 5 just so I can chill with the tunes.

Anyways, while puttering around and watching some live musicals of P5, I found these dudes that do video game music covers and they’re real jazzy.

Does anyone have clean version of Anett Futatabi opening song for Mega CD? It sounds really scuffed because it’s using digitized audio instead of redbook cd track. There is no ost CD that I could find online. The digital ost from EGG is also this scuffed version.

I asked my buddy Beastwad to try to clean it up but he send me this EXTREMELY good boychill version instead. Beware of harsh hissing.

Cheddahz Swedish is really fun to play on Pop’n Music, especially in the couple seconds when the song is over and you can freestyle with the samples :p
