I was fooling around trying to set up the Retroid Pocket 2 I got for Christmas and ended up playing a couple of levels of Alien Trilogy for the PSX. It was chill.

So fun coming back to this thread.
It’s pretty long now so I dunno if Sign of a Hero has already been posted, but it’s been on my mind a lot.

The song itself is a little awkwardly paced, but I absolutely adore how it was applied to the commercial for Klonoa Heroes. Thinking of an alternate world where we got a Klonoa OVA.

Speaking of game theme songs with really good commercial cuts, I love The Dream Will Never Die from Tales of Phantasia…

…which also had a commercial cut that effectively gets me super pumped. I wish to make a commercial with a really juicy snippet of a vocal theme for a game some day.

So impressive that it had the vocals on the cart too.

The intro theme from Chrono Cross gives me chills. Oh man.

The whole soundtrack is great also. Makes for good rainy day music.

I’ve been digging PC Engine cd romroms and there are so many goodies.

I love this little puzzle game by Game Freak. Feels like it could be an early iphone game. Fun soundtrack.

Ultrabox is disc based magazine with bunch of small games and bits so you don’t know what you gonna get from disc to disc.
This is a bit Streets of Rage-y.

Alice in Flagland title song. Cute menu based adv with Final Fight reference. Gem!

Sweet Space Invader song for vs mode. This feels kind of like a hidden gem because default is instrumental version and have to set sound option to “song” to get this version with vocal track.

KennyL I really like the fanart sections of the Ultra Box discs. Genuine fanart straight from the early-mid 90s.

So it may not be the most polished of shmups, but The Great Ragtime Show/Boogie Wings has this Data East charm, the cool mechanic of hitching yourself a ride if your plane got destroyed and some really catchy tunes.

I also have the ChoRenSha 68K in regular rotation as “something to listening while working” music. Really excellent job from a composer I wish I knew more about.

On the topic, just found out about this: The 16-Bit Audiophile Project

They’re recording audio from 16-bit console hardware. Their site goes into the technical details for those interested. Music is available on their website in FLAC and MP3 files, as well as on their YouTube channel.

I’ve been going through a HUGE PCE soundtrack archive (See here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC21WUYoVBZNb7Qi4EcGn3Kw/videos) and came across this soundtrack which is just super sad:

formation soccer ’95, full of new jack swing, cool chooms, etc, but RUINED by a 2 second white noise loop of crowd noise that’s louder than all the music itself. lord! what a shame.

this was also done with j-league tremendous soccer ’94 (which is a great name)

somebody out there has got to have the “pre-noise” versions of these

exodus Sports games got some good ass music. Those crowd noises are annoying as heck but essential for the title music for Davis Cup Tennis. The composer is totally on a mission here.
