Out Run 2 and Out Run 2006: Coast 2 Coast

This is one of the only games I’ve ever played where I was making the gamepro 5 face the entire time. I love the first Out Run, it’s one of my favorite games of all time, so arcadey and pure. The idea of an out run sequel truly capturing the spirit of the original seemed unlikely, but I was so, so wrong.
For starters, the arcade modes for 2 and 2SP are a blast right out of the gate, with blissful backgrounds and varied challenges on every path, without adding gimmicks like jumps or a turbo or something. The “rival” cars give you something else to focus on if you need it, but I could drift the day away with this control scheme.
I was struggling to find a kind of ‘credits’ for this game to take my picture for the forum, and in the process, I… just completed every mode. Can you blame me? and I still want to go back right now and play more! This is partially because I’m typing this up in a freezing greenhouse and I played this game on a crt in the summer. This is an A plus, it’s a 10 out of 10 in my book. I wish I had a way to play it handheld. gonna have to emulate it on deck or something.
Next I brought the pacing to a screeching halt with the PC classic Myst, which I’ll try and type up soon.
