Definitely impressive! Makes me wonder whether an untextured game like floating runner might be viable at a low frame rate.
3D homebrew for GBA has come a long way, and has a promising future. we could get all kinds of cool stuff!
Looking pretty solid now. I think I prefer untextured polygons in this case but pretty good lookin movement!
Very impressive Mario, feels like looking into another world almost, like I’m seeing something I shouldn’t be allowed to see.
imagining this SM64GBA demo on unmodified original GBA AGB hardware on that unlit screen.
anyways, this is a stretch, but I want this rom to be available so check it out
The dream continues. The camera is super slick.
it sounds like the developer lives inside a GBA
Mario’s face and other textures seem to be more detailed versions than the n64 original.
This demo is getting to the point of progress where I really wanna put hands on it.
Queue GBA sound chip version of Koji Kondo’s SLIDER using the Super Mario Advance 1 sound font.
Maybe more accurate:
Here’s one I totally missed! Karnaaj Rally has 3D in the foreground on most stages. I never really played this one because of the ridiculous cover art.
Anyway enjoy some 3D palm fronds! Starts around 2:10.
As racing games go I would describe that as “very slow”. I feel as though the cars should go fast, not slow.
There seems to be faster cars in the game, looking at the rest of the footage. Looks fast enough to me.
I remember that cover appearing on LOL Worst Video Game Cover Art of All Time listicles in the early internet/possibly magazine days. But hot darn that might actually be the worst video game cover of all time. Just nothing appealing happening there! Especially considering that the game itself actually looks pretty good.
Cruis’n Velocity is somewhat uniquely crumby lookin. At first I thought it was the same as Thunder Alley but it is actually much more advanced with diagonal walls, tunnels, and steps.
Basically drive a 2D car around a Doom stage.
wow, it is very DOOM-y. Looks like a heck of a beast to control as well, very slow and slidy with weird turns. It also looks like something made them incliuned to make really short laps, or at least repetitive ones. I wonder whether that’s memory constraints, or just an attempt to make the game seem faster? They gave it a shot, but it seems quite rough.
Also I like how we’re still finding more of these. somebody (not me) oughta make a list!
there are a lot! A whole other list could be made of all the weird isometric GBA games based on movies and such.
This is a good attempt at looking at all 3D/pseudo 3D racers. Definitely some things we have yet to highlight. So far Corvette is the nicest looking one I haven’t seen before. Worth scanning through.
