My most anticipated game is whatever new 3D platformer Nintendo tosses out there for Switch 2. Let’s get slightly-tugging-down-on-your-business-tie-at-the-neck wild Nintendo… make it a Donkey Kong.

Thus far 2025 looks like it’s going to be a fairly quiet year for me, though I am cautiously optimistic about Clair Obscur and also looking forward to Ghost of Yōtei. I bounced off of Ghost of Tsushima because I couldn’t get into its protagonist, but the game’s presentation and gameplay were so stellar I still love the game and have a lot of excitement for this next installment
This is also the sort of thing I originally wanted God of War to do after God of War 3: take the overall concept but recontextualize it with a new protagonist and setting, so I’m excited to see where things go with this

Lots of games getting mentioned here that I didn’t expect to see! This verifies my suspicions that we’re all Videogame Hipsters. I also expect a good few won’t be coming out this year. Unbeatable has pushed their release year a couple times now for example.

I truly wonder what Deltarune will be like. Part 1 came out in 2018, and it seems like so much has changed. I was touched by Part 1 years ago, but in ways that I don’t know if I would be as receptive to now. I can only imagine as the artist, what Toby might have wanted to say as a 26 year old is probably much different than as a 33 year old. I will give it a shot but my enthusiasm is more tepid. A 7 year long project of 3 hour chapters releasing every 3-4 years makes me worry it won’t be as cohesive, and since Chapter 5 is coming in the future, I feel like it would be better to continue to wait.
Some other indie RPGS I’m interested in addition to De Monschool:
Silent Kingdom is an Otome RPG! It looks great and appropriately dark, and promises to have some nice romance elements to it.
Arisen Force Vonimir looks like it could be an interesting Star Ocean-style action RPG stylized like a Octopath or Triangle Strategy.
Dark Deity 2 should be a pretty nice Fire Emblem-like strategy RPG. The first was good though it had some issues, it looks like it might be a little more focused:
Earthblade because it’s Maddy Thorson’s next game, full stop. Sign me up!

Oh! Another I’m not seeing here is Hyper Light Breaker. I don’t intend to play it in early access but I loved Hyper Light Drifter and it’ll be exciting to see how they’ve evolved that beyond what was shown in the NoClip doc.
I replayed Sacred Stones last year because I was itching for that tasty pixel art Fire Emblem used to have. This looks very cool.

I hadn’t seen this one before, but it looks like it could be up my alley (though I’m the sort to wait until games hit 1.0, so I might not actually play it in 2025, depending on how long early access is…)
