Anti-patient Antici-pation: Games we're looking forward to in the year 2025

Here’s a link to tomorrow’s Xbox Developer Direct.

Doom: The Dark Age is probably my most anticipated game this year (yeah, I know, but I really liked the modern Dooms, especially 2016), and we’re pretty sure to see a release date (rumors say mid-May).

Also featured will be Clair Osbcur: Expedition 33, which looks way better than it has a right to and South of Midnight, which looks cool (but looked cooler before they showed gameplay).

There will also be a surprise 3rd party announcement (speculation has this pegged at recent Final Fantasy games coming to Xbox, but who knows?)

deltarune chapters 3 & 4, yakuza pirate game, ever17 port, demonschool & whatever becomes of the super switch…great year

excited to see more people able to play lunar & suikoden but yeah ,that update don’t look good

and yeah, as a huge yakuza fan, waiting is a good idea cause they get good & cheap. now that i have a steamdeck, im kinda waiting for an ultimate humble bundle/sale to get as much of the series & judgment games on steam just for the mods

Not usually a deck builder game player, but this is pretty fun:

Boy that 15 FPS stop motion animation looks really cool in South of Midnight’s cutscenes.

That same animation style in the combat looks near unplayable.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has absolutely no right looking like this good of a time. Is this the first big budget JRPG from the West?

Anachronox maybe

My favorite bullet point about Clair Obscur:

"Yes…

…we have a world map!"

That was maybe the best Xbox-related presentation I’ve ever seen. Shame it comes when Xbox as a brand is approaching irrelevance.

I’m pretty sold on 3 out of the 4 games shown (Ninja Gaiden 4, Expedition 33, Doom).

Steam page is up for NG4:

I love that they took such pride in that. Most JRPG likers, enjoy a world map and it’s become such a rarity to have one anymore.

All these games look good but realistically I’ll probably only ever play Ninja Gaiden and expedition 33.

I was thinking of the viability of Expedition’s countdown timer and was wondering at what number can that lady effectively give up the pageantry? Things seem like they’d be plenty unsustainable at six.

Clair Obscur looks great so far, and I’m at least intrigued by South of Midnight. My PC is starting to show its age when it comes to the latter, though

Either way, I hope both are good. It’s nice seeing new stuff that feels like it’s taking swings with so much of the focus on remasters, remakes, and sequels for the last while

Ninja Gaiden 4(ever)!

Doom: The Dark Ages looks like a game tailored to specifically me in the same way Nine Sols did, and I don’t have to remind anyone here how I ended up feeling about that one after prattling endlessly about it.

Don’t sweat it; that game will look the same at 15 FPS as it does at 120.

I am also onboard the DtDA train. I’m glad they’re simplifying the controls a bit from Eternal.

Same. I loved the Doom from 2016. Doom Eternal I feel it quite overwhelming and this seems to be the most ambitious but being tailored to just the kind of tanky experience I want to play from an FPS.
I think most of the games look very good so far. I’m sad that I won’t be able to experience the fourth Ninja Gaiden due to personal reasons.

Also, a new game from the creators of art of rally.

It’d be interesting to see how they implement a more Mudrunner/Snowrunner type of game compared to their previous game.

Heck yeah! Guess I don’t have to get an Xbox after all. Just threw this on the wishlist and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black in my cart.

DOOM The Dark Ages looks soo good. Props for dropping multiplayer and making Panzer Dragoon and Kaiju Battle modes instead.

Panzer DragooM

Didn’t they say you were going to be a tank? I think Panzer DragooM might be canon.
