Life By You is delayed again, 2 weeks before it was supposed to go to Early Access with no new release date in sight. There’s a statement by Paradox’s new CEO:

I’m hoping this is because they’re taking the release more seriously than other recent outings and have a real plan to support it. Paradox Tectonic is a small studio and I think they could have a hit on their hands if they do it right. But if the game releases with the kind of problems that Cities Skylines 2 had, then I don’t think this game has much of a shot. It’s got to release with mod support, run well, and have enough in it to make people keep coming back. The design of the game looks extremely open ended and approachable for anyone to customize, which is refreshing compared to The Sims’ closed ecosystem and aggressive monetization.

Paradox’s model of creating elaborate simulations and supporting them over a decade with substantial free + paid DLCs every 9-18 months is probably less sustainable now than it was 5 years ago, so it will be interesting if they go that route. The Sims 5 could be a disaster when it launches, so this game has a big opportunity to give us a new vision of what the Life Sim games could look like.

Oh my lord.

The Master System & Genesis one was real good, and may be the Picross S I’ve spent the most time in (and I’ve played them all)

Keen for this!

sold on the Namco Picross, bought so quick, my debit card will have rugburn on May 30

(I do wonder why they’re so lean on the music selections for these, though? that seems like such a gimme, my one and only complaint with the Sega version)

The developers of Anodyne have released the first issue of a journal / free substack where various small indie developers talk about a specific aspect of game design and how they dealt with it. I think it rules and if it grows it could become a great resource!

The console war never changes…

I’m well aware that Jaffe will be subtracting 5 points from my secret score because this link has a Tommy Tallarico reference in it, but it was too weird to pass up.

I’m just gonna delete my comment, didn’t read the article too closely and didn’t realize this. Didn’t mean to come across as insensitive, my apologies!

These new lawsuits, one filed in California and the other in Texas, turn attention to the marketing and sale of the rifle used by the shooter. The California suit claims that 2021’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare featured the weapon, a Daniel Defense M4 V7, on a splash screen, and that playing the game led the teenager to research and then later purchase the gun hours after his 18th birthday.

This isn’t the first lawsuit of this kind related to a COD:

In 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported that Activision once made a “secret deal” with Remington to feature the gun maker’s Adaptive Combat Rifle in 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the same gun used in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Remington was sued by the families of those victims for irresponsible marketing, and though it fought the suit, it ultimately settled for $73 million in 2022.

do we have a proper EDF thread, and also does anyone know if earth defense force 6 is getting a physical release? can’t find prorders at any of the big box stores yet

Wow, what a colossal mess made by Sony

While I have no feelings for Bungie management, this sucks for anyone that worked on the game and was excited for the big release day reveals.

Watched Sony’s E3 presentation, and this was definitely the highlight. No idea what it means by “testing in Q3”, but it seems you can do mundane action platforming to unlock dresses to then wash a puppy while a talking cat takes your picture while some demonic force chained up in ruins threatens you.
