Ask me anything (me = forum)

the olsen twins are from The Met Gala, where they used to show up on a yearly basis in the most exquisite vintage pieces purposefully not on whatever dumb theme Anna Wintour had cooked up

…but they haven’t gone in the past like 5 years :frowning:

But yea they started on Full House before having a series of direct-to-VHS releases that all had truly bizarre plots

Meme-worthy:

I answered based on vibes only. Couldn’t name a song. Unsure if I’ve ever listened to them

I’m not trying to call anyone out or make any assumptions, but this is definitely an “old people on the bottom” situation.

That’s what I was expecting—something which used to be taught as standard and is no longer—which makes me curious to ask @穴: how have you come to prefer/tend toward two spaces?

I don’t actually do it, I just prefer when people live by a disciplined and arbitrary code. I was taught 2 spaces in my middle school typing class but never held accountable for it, so to me it’s just a quirk that I have no personal stakes in.

correction: old people who refuse to change

i never really fucked with them but the album art for science fiction is one of my favorite images, i’d put it on a wall if it was just its own thing

I’m going to Peoria Illinois tomorrow and was looking at their local marketplace and spotted this strange ps2. Has anybody sent one like this before? I have not. The post doesn’t say anything about it being nonstandard.

Edit: a closer look indicated that this still has the front disc loader. I’m going to guess this is some disc swap shell so you can play burned games or something with out the system knowing that you opened the disc tray.

Is the canonical Romhacking.net successor decided yet?

i think it’s more splintered now, but the main two i know of are romhackplaza.org and romhack.ing
also, if you just want a lot of pre-patched games in one place, cdromance moved to retrogametalk.com/repository, though you need to make an account now

What happened to romhacking.net?

Admin gave it up because nerds were being psychos. The usual

what da heck is HDR?

I remember when Half Life 2: Lost Coast released to showcase it and I thought it looked worse. I still don’t really understand exactly what it is or why you need hardware specific monitor/television to take advantage. Does anyone know?

The HDR in Lost Coast was a rendering technique.

Modern discussion refers to HDR video signals. Which you need specialised hardware to take advantage of. In practical terms, I think this just means HDR displays can change the backlighting in an area (per pixel?) to make bright areas “really pop”.

Ahh okay, so these two instances are unrelated. I think that was the source of my confusion. Thank you!

Well HDR (High Dynamic Range) means the same thing in both cases. The visuals use more colour data than standard.

But that’s about where the similarity end.

You can maybe think of Source Engine HDR as a console emulator. Where modern HDR signal/displays are the actual OG console hardware.

imagine you just attended a high power business lunch with a high-level executive of your current or dream employer. you hit it off tremendously. after lunch and back at the office, you both approach a staircase. before you even take a step, the executive runs ahead and climbs the staircase on all fours like so:

do you:

  • do the same and comment on the situation once you reach the top
  • do the same but pretend it’s normal and not worth mentioning
  • climb the stairs normally but ask them what the hell is going on at the top
  • climb the stairs normally but pretend nothing happened
