i have 3 exams today. Since i was very dilligent early on, i don’t need much to get approved. Max i need is 3/10, which is 99% garanteed at this point. Should i study anyway or just lazy around???
Study a little bit before you go to sleep, but focus on resting.
I say study a bit as well.
don’t study and use the power of prayer instead
Watch Searching for Bobby Fischer. That’s a film about a kid who studied a lot, took a break before his big day, and then rocked his final exam.
i’ve seen this!!! good movie.
Thanks @Mnemogenic @DaveedNoo @yeso and @Taliesin_Merlin
i decided to read my notes and refresh stuff. I powered through my semester in a couple of weeks (since i study asynchronously that’s an option) and turns out i forgot some stuff. I’m still safe for what i’m seeing but it doesn’t hurt just to study a little right? After this, i’m on a college break until August!
I’ll have a little more time to play games and rewatch titanic every week
Is Expedition 33 actually really that good or are the Facebook commenter schmucks who are raving hyperbolically about it just not often playing anything good, or reading books?
I don’t know the answer personally, but I am going to check it out because Jacob Gellar really liked it and he generally has good tastes and is more literate/art-erate than most other game commenter types
haven’t played it, and am not intending to, but people I trust seem to really love it. If an RPG like that is your thing, all signs point to this being a good one.
Really only one way to find out!
i mean, it’s fun. it’s a little messy.
i think the lore of like “we’re gonna make a souls jrpg because nobody makes them based games anymore” is a big part of the appeal. and the set dressing is really nice and all the individual pieces are at a minimum super competent.
i had fun!
It’s very AA and hacked together in ways I’ve been vocal about, but someone around here described it really well when saying the developers had a vision and they executed it with confidence. It knows what it wants to be and it’s very earnest in that effort.
Part of the hype is how it refreshingly subverts the established expectation of how a JRPG should be written and presented during a time where JRPGs have settled into a very narrow range of story/design tropes. Some of it is that it is genuinely well designed and competently written.
It’s a good game. Just don’t expect Square Enix production quality or breadth of content.
So, to frame it within the dichotomy in which I phrased my question, it sounds like it’s a bit of both. Genuinely good game, but, Facebook Commenters still have a poor frame of reference.
I’ll definitely check it out at some point, I’m not in a rush though.
its cheap financing month at the local music shop and i think its time i got a proper amp/head so i can quit relying on my explodey computer to practice. i’ve only ever owned terrible practice amps so i would love something i could feasibly play a show on since i might be doing that soon. i know there are some guitar folks here, any recs on what i should be looking for? (brands, tube vs solid state, things to look out for etc.)
also how do i convince a commissioned retail employee that yea i want a short-scale bass and no i am not an idiot
i think the genuine question here (not judging) is why are you reading facebook commentors???
Morbid curiosity, of course
What kind of music do you play, what gear do you already own, how do you want to sound, and what is your budget?
im playing for a very diy punk band but on my own time i am more interested in the louder/heavier/faster end of shoegaze or whatever. i play a cheap jaguar guitar and a fender jazz bass if that’s any indication of what im into lol. my pedalboard was a gift from a friend and is a tuner and a cab sim plus a small pile of boutique overdrives and fuzz pedals that also happen to do other things on occasion. im financing this so im aiming around 1k CAD but i could go a little higher
i have an 8mix with sort of ok pre-amps built in that i run everything i have through to active monitors at home and that way i can avoid messing with DAWs or compy when i have a bunch of stuff going and i dont wanna stare at any screens. but i would really like a proper amp that i can get some volume out of without a whole mess of other gear, among other things a simpler setup would be much less distracting
i like your band (and great name). i bought the album. speaking truthfully, i would say the sound is unique and dialed in enough that it’ll sound good no matter what you play so just pick something that feels cool.
that said, conventional wisdom would point you to a tube amp since you’ll be playing it live with a pedal board and can crank it up. forgive me if you already know this, but tube amps sound REALLY good when you push them and can break the sound up, so if you are really driving a tube amp with a fuzz in front of it, you will sound amazing.
downsides of tube amps: they are heavy, expensive, finicky, and prone to breaking.
does the music store only sell new gear? if not, i might consider looking at something like an ampeg v4. it’s a bass amp, but i used to play guitar through it and it would sound amazing dimed out with a fuzz in front of it. my “secret weapon” alternative used to be a peavey VTM, which were cheap and could be found a dime a dozen on craigslist, but taking a look online now, it seems the secret is out and they have gone up in price.
if the music store does only sell new gear, it will be pretty difficult to find a “high quality” tube amp for less than 1k, but that’s okay because 90% of people do not need a 100 watt amp. if i were in your position i would probably be walking out of that store with anything by ORANGE. specifically the dual terror or the OR15.
i would also suggest looking at combo amps. when i was tired of lugging my stuff around, i eventually “downsized” to a black model twin reverb reissue and was more than happy with it. it’s a bit out of your budget i think but you could get equally good tone with the hot rod deluxe for something higher wattage or a blues junior or something from vox for lower wattage. higher wattage is louder, but that also means you have to push the amp further to get that signature tube amp sound, so more wattage does not always equal better.
i’m not a huge fan of solid state amps because they sound thin to me, but if i had to choose, basically my same suggestions apply. stick to orange if you’re buying new or get a roland jazz chorus if you’re feeling freaky.
to distill all of this: spend half your budget on a solid orange tube amp and spend the rest on more fuzz pedals
this was actually done by my friend maddy, i’m just joining the band for live shows! but thank you! i agree! ill pass the compliment along :)
also before i forget: this is very very helpful i appreciate it a lot
