Seconded! I’ve taken omnivore buddies to vegan pizza places and they’ve been blown away by how good it can be. Maybe vegan pizza was often bad in the early 2000’s, but now it can be every bit as good as cheese and meat pizza. I mean, I live in the kind of place people guess is bad for vegans (it’s not, but that’s another story), and we have an excellent all-vegan pizza place that regularly places in local best pizza competitions.
as someone with a foot in both worlds [my gf is vegan] i have yet to sample a vegan cheese that was not at best better in absentia. at worst, the smell of vegan cheese makes me nauseous. many of the decent s e r i o u s pizza places around here just do offbeat veggie toppings for their vegan options and i think that’s the best choice most of the time.
aforementioned vegan gf does love Papa John’s vegan pizza though. they’re the only place you can reliably get a large amount of hot food that caters to both of us after 10pm, which for us night creatures has more than once come in clutch. and when it hits - fresh and hot - it ain’t bad. certainly in the realm of good ‘Bad Pizza’. however they are on the BDS list so have been avoiding recently.
This is a good one if you want to offend Italian people on multiple fronts at once while also not enjoying your meal.
Cashew based vegan cheese tends to be pretty good and that’s what the good vegan pizza places use.
A lot of regular pizza places that offer a vegan option use some kind of coconut oil based cheese replacement that has the worst texture and tastes horrible and might additionally be one of the most unhealthy things one can put in their body lol.
Now that is some nasty looking pizza. I’d try it.
No one listens.
I have to say if I saw this on offer for free I would not eat it. American cheese is an affront to the idea of cheese! I said it! there should not be stretch marks or a visible film on a melted dairy product!
American cheese has its place on a burger or melt but that’s about it. Good American cheese slaps.
I would try it.
so you get Detroit style and put a slice of american cheese on it
Replace the slice of American with a slice of mozzarella and it becomes pretty normie pizza.
In elementary school we used to have pizza days where we would give the teacher $5 on the Monday and on Friday we would have pizza for lunch. They would always order from Pizza Pizza because it was the cheapest. The crust tasted like nothing, the cheese was razor thin, the sauce was bland, the pepperoni had no presence. That was bad pizza.
Fellow Canadians who were conscious beings in the early 2000’s may also remember how bad Pizza Pizza was. It still isn’t good but I will say they have reach the level of mediocre pizza.
Yeah, but that’d just be a regular pizza then. The whole affront is the burger cheddar instead of real cheese.
as a michigander i was very excited to try “pizza pizza” for the first time because it was the slogan from little caesars.
wait, you’re a michigander too?? …is your username initials for “michigander occupying hell?”
(that joke was a real stretch; i’m sorry.
i was initially going to type “michigan or hell,” but then i realized if i didn’t make a hell, michigan joke, it’d feel wrong.
again, all i can do is apologize)
this feels too real to be a joke…
