@“HeavenlyHalberd”#p153316 Relics just received this compelling video retrospective that may tempt you into persevering through the PC-88 version on Switch:

Also, although the EGGCONSOLE games themselves are understandably not translated, I gotta say the in-game manuals I have checked so far are very well done and seemingly all properly translated and edited into English (unlike the manuals from Hamster which are often lacking – especially their earlier releases – and suffer from weird EFIGS translations). There are also helpful hints found inside; like the Ys manual explaining the famous early subquest that allows you starting the game proper with 3500G.
@“◉◉maru”#p153324 Oh man, Relics seems 1000% my jam. This series and game seems absolutely fascinating. Also, this channel is fantastic, I can‘t wait to delve into more of their videos because this is a great source for an area of games I’ve always been curious about but know little of. Thanks for the rec!
Just to say, I think it‘s very funny that you can’t find the Switch Ys pc-88 release by searching for Ys. You have to search for EGGCONSOLE because that‘s what they slap on the front of every title. It’s fun that someone in 2024 is releasing video games without understanding seo at all (or desperately trying to build a brand called EGGCONSOLE)
@“exodus”#p154369 Project Egg is truly the epitome of “ideologically wonderful; terrible in execution”. The emulators into which the games are locked when you buy games for PC from them are limited to at most 1.6×(???) resolution, have few to no options, and typically don‘t even support save states. Makes sense that their console efforts would be stunted in various areas as well, dunnit… (Apparently they at least support save states, speedup, and rewind, though – and don’t force bilinear scaling? There's some good in the world.)
I tend to buy games on Egg and then promptly instead play a pirated copy in a standalone emulator.
Well, well, well! Look who’s talking smack about D4 Enterprises!
I genuinely wonder if this SEO incompatibility is why all recent releases (Celceta, Lacrimosa of Dana, Monstrum Nox, Nordics etc.) have such specific namings.
I don’t know if it counts as “classic” PC gaming but at this point, @“Pasokon Deacon”#8 @“gsk”#70 you’re my only hopes, is there any modern way to contact the makers (and presumably copyright owners) of Blocksum? I have been trying for weeks but they seem like ghosts. I am desperately trying to make sure the author(s) get properly compensated for a modern game with similar rules instead of getting into a Puzz Loop / Zuma situation and I seem to be the only person giving a shit, addressees included.
@“◉◉maru”#p158038 wow, weird coincidence, I was just talking to some people about Blocksum the other day…
To my knowledge, the game's programmer and original designer currently works at Nintendo as director on the Splatoon series, so getting in touch with them is not going to be easy. I did once speak to someone who worked for a Disney division that was involved in adapting Blocksum into a Disney-published mobile game but I cannot for the life of me find their contact details—in the event that I do, I'll let you know.
@“gsk”#p158041 Wow!? That’s the same Satō Shintarō? Thank you so much for the heads up, haha, I was clearly barking up the wrong tree. It will definitely be difficult contacting a Nintendo employee but I am confident some of the people involved will find a way.
The game is unannounced, sorry. It’s not 1:1 the same game but I think it is close enough to warrant at the very least some clarification. If the game ever comes up, I am sure you won’t have trouble putting [2] and [2] together.
