Tea leaves reading wise, probably a good sign. The last Pope Leo was referred to as ā€œThe Pope of the Workersā€. Not that we’re going to get a woke Pope or anything, but I don’t think we’re getting a MAGA pope at least. Still a shame they picked an American though

That’s more of a New England thing.

The focus, as well as the style of governance, of Latin American bishops also has been clear in the post-conciliar era: They never stopped asking what it means to exercise a preferential option for the poor. In the face of widespread and acute poverty, they refined the Gospel’s implications for a just society into a more or less coherent theology. They abandoned some of the coarser theories once grouped under the heading ā€œliberation theologyā€ for a more homegrown theology of the people that eschewed the faulty anthropology, materialist assumptions and Hegelian dialectical theory that characterized too much of liberation theology.

way too smart for me, does it just mean they’re taking the liberation out of liberation theology?

yeah I think the author was attempting to reassure that the new Pope ain’t a commie

You got me wondering if even 1% of this election result was motivated by the need to displace SEO away from what comes out first when you search for ā€œamerican catholic churchā€ on a search engine these days…

This is why I share things here. Folks around these parts have knowledge of ideas and concepts that I do not.

it would be so pussy if Pope Yeso XIV made his own version of this:

ā€œHegelian dialectical theoryā€ is a strange way to phrase it but then again that’s how a liberal American Catholic (which is what the author of the piece appears to be correct me if I’m wrong) would avoid the M word I suppose. I’m not really sure what to make of it other than an attempt presenting a moderate framing for Leo within an already (for the Catholic Church) progressive context. Wasn’t trying to do a gotcha on you or anything, genuinely thought it was an interesting detail

Beginning to think this guy might actually fucking suck…

You know that every building on that street is numbered 69, making it impossible for emergency services to respond to any emergencies.

my new conspiracy is that the current administration of the USA gave a shit ton of money to the vatican to have an american pope

after doing some research I think calling the Pope a Chicago guy isnt quite accurate and perhaps a little unfair as he’s really from Dolton. They should let Dolton have this they got enough problems over there believe me. Related - he shouldnt be a cubs fan as has been reported…something’s not adding up
