Some (like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau) are speculating that the intention might be to soften Canada up economically in preparation of annexation.
Iām not financially literate in the sense of national and global economies, but this is like what, the third or fourth recession the economy has gone through since Iāve been 18? Iāve been poor in all of them. Maybe Iām not literate enough to see the downstream effects, but the stock market has never impacted my month-to-month finances. I donāt have a 401k, I donāt save for retirement in an IRA, I have no pension in my future. I do ok on very little yearly income. I worry about what happens when I get older, and for how much longer Iāll have healthcare, but not about a recession.
I feel solidarity with the people who do feel squeezed, I just donāt think thatās me.

I finally got solvent enough to start contributing to a 401k within the last year. Iām just gonna keep doing it. I donāt know what else to do. Thereās not enough money in there that itās even going to be a big deal to me if it all goes away. Iāve never had significant money in my life so itāll just be the same old story for me.

I dont want to give financial advice on the forum but retirement accounts will look ugly during a recession then recover, thatās sort of the way they work over the long haul. Everyoneās got mauled by COVID not that long ago and have come back fwiw

I similarly have only been on a 401k for about 2 years now. Iām lucky enough that Iām in a dual income household and can set aside enough money to max contributions out since Iām super far behind my partner on retirement savings. I havenāt even gotten into the investment side of retirement savings though.

Theory I read about the current situation that makes sense to me is you have trump et all flush with cash from rug pulling with meme coins in the last few months manufacturing a recession through tariffs/chaos to tank the economy ābuy the dipā ala COVID, come out even richer when it recovers after changing policy. Political insider trading on steroids/with a GameShark.

Like @Garrett.exe I recently got my money right and as a result started doing things like contributing to a 401k etc. However due to the precocity of my field, the rising costs of living, and my lack of any liquid assets, it feels a bit fruitless.
The stock market means nothing to me when itās rallying, but as soon as it starts turning red I get a sinking feeling in my stomach because I know the shit will only roll downhill. I love our schizophrenic mode.
