Pulling an Angry Youtube Comment with this:

Haven't listened to a single second of this yet or the team's justification but Halo REACH is _not_ better than 3!!! I'm sorry buddy but this is the wrong opinion! D:<

Can't wait to hear how George Harrison's Son stacks up

this episode kicked ass (listened to it early due to $$$); i will say that i went looking for any sight of the xbox live indie games mentioned and they‘re on archive.org, though i have not tested them yet and i’m assuming they need an xbox 360 emulator to run

i'm half-asleep rn, but i'll post more of my thoughts tomorrow

@captain#24027 I have to say, I don't think any of us could remember why reach was supposed to be better than 3 but I only played reach prior to the show (having played 3 many years ago) because I knew a couple people were nominating it. So uh… HONK

I played Halos 1-5 back to back several years ago. I felt like Reach was better than 3 if only because the writing/pacing was better (except, like, the last level). For 3 I actually bought it on launch day and then quit the campaign midway through (???)

During a purge of games several years ago I got rid of all my 360 games, but those seem to be in the bargain valley right now. I still have my 360 (1st year model, never red ringed, and still has the blades UI) so maybe I should check some of these out.

Castle Crashers definitely set the tone for XBLA in a big way but I don‘t think the game itself was particularly influential, nor can I think of a single game that was clearly inspired by CC that didn’t do it better. I'd be more inclined to give that spot to something like Super Meat Boy, whose influence on other action games was immediate and remains inescapable.

Another game I'd mention is Shadow Complex, an average game with absolutely no staying power that nonetheless help reassert the wider popularity of the metroidvania in the mainstream, partly by the simple virtue of not being a handheld and/or dot-art game but also via the developers' PR angle essentially amounting to talking about how cool Super Metroid is, all the time.

I'd also give Child of Eden a nod for being the one Kinect game I played that actually worked as promised.

Ninja Gaiden II goes without saying, and I can only presume that's the sole reason it went unmentioned.

On games that have you ride in a vehicle with characters and talk/listen to them and have an element where you are able to pick back up where you left off if you get interrupted, two comes to mind.

God of War 2019, when riding around in the boat, Kratos and Mimir will tell stories and if you disembark in the middle of them they will sometimes pick back up where they left off. I tried not to do this for fear of missing out on any of the stories so I don't know how far the mechanic goes but it is there.

The other is a little indie game called Wheels of Aurelia, where you are driving around in a car in Italy during the 70s, occasionally racing but mostly just having conversations with people.

Great episode! I‘ve been making a point to play my 360 more and explore its catalog of games I missed back when it was current and this gives me quite a bit to go off of.

I’ve actually never played a Halo game, a Gear of War, or Lost Planet game. I was a mostly grumpy retro gamer who was very resistant to first- and third-person shooters and was way more into the system‘s library of 2D shooters. I’ve missed out on quite a lot!

@Syzygy#24047 If it seems like the bargain valley to you now, I don’t want to tell you what you missed.

what does this mean? I think I mean by "bargain valley" I mean "I can get Halo Reach for $5 at gamestop and the cashier threw in an ODST disc for free"

Very pleased to hear Kikstart, the first game I ever played (I think), mentioned. I dare not ever play it again in case it's total dogshit but I loved that game dearly.

Great episode. I agree with everything Brandon and Jaffe said about Nier although I like both Old guy and Young guy Nier. I read in online communities especially after Automata the opinion that Gestalt/Replicant gameplay was bad and that Drakengard 3 had better/more fun combat than it, until last year that I played Drak3 for the first time and after some weeks with it realized I was not having fun and couldn‘t feel any sense of accomplishment trying to master its mechanics so just stopped to play it. So far is the only Drakengard/Nier game I couldn’t bother to finish and made me question what a lot of people were considering as good on this games.

One thing I also love on Nier is how they put mechanics there like you can jump on a wall and bounce back, a move that you rarely remember to use because there‘s not a lot of environments where you can do it in combat and it’s not required to know it to finish the game but it's still there because I think some guy thought it was neat to implement it.

loving it so far. the console list episodes are always the best

@TheBeigeKnight#24054 The uncharteds all do that too, to the point where you almost can't miss any dialog, which makes it feel less important somehow!

@Nemoide for the lost planets ignore the third one! but the difference between 1 and 2 is interesting enough that I'd recommend at least trying both (and it's not like they're expensive).

@fiodanavalha I met some of the Platinum folks who worked on Automata and told them the combat was too smooth and that nier should feel rougher! they said sorry lol

Protect Me Knight!! That game rules and the ball has been dropped on the Switch localization of the sequel. I feel like more people are probably aware of Amazon's Running Diet though, lol.

other notable 360 indie titles that you can't purchase anymore :((((

Hidden In Plain Sight -- very simple but super fun multiplayer with an original concept. [This is on Steam now ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/303590/Hidden_in_Plain_Sight)and works only with local players. One the best party games ever IMO, extremely easy to pick up for anyone.

Breath of Death VII -- silly parody of jrpgs from the dev of Cosmic Star Heroine & Cthulu Saves the World

[B.U.T.T.O.N. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAOplz5ri5k)-- another fun local multiplayer game, almost more of a board game that encourages silly physical interaction

[Super Amazing Wagon Adventure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkT-kfgwbZQ) -- got a pc release but no other console, excellent Oregon Trail riff

[Wizorb ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKCnCOd7jXA)-- Arkanoid type game with great graphics, not on any other console

also that Scott Pilgrim game that only recently got a new release

lastly special award to the alternate history WW2 nazi vampire/werewolf/frankenstein/jack the ripper simulation [Operation Darkness](http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/operation-darkness/) which is a bit ugly but quite a good time, especially if you're into this particular genre or aesthetic. Not on any other platform.

Super Amazing Wagon Adventure was on my personal list!

I didn't put Operation Darkness on there because of how loooooooooooong battles take. I just wasn't having the loltimes I wanted.

Yeah, I put Operation Darkness on my “games I wish I'd played” list but I‘ve never actually played it. It’s on my list to play one day though.

Also, I believe Wizorb is available as PSmini (so not available to buy for much longer).

kris graft here–thanks again for having me on, it was super fun! always amazed at how much my friends at IC know about ALL VIDEO GAMES. and this is a real good list if i do say so.

edit: also it was really difficult to do this list because the 360 was my main console back then and so many games FELT like 360 games to me even though they were day one multiplatform. this ep made me realize i'm really a fan of the ol' 360! *nostalgia blooms*

@exodus#24092 didn’t put Operation Darkness on there because of how loooooooooooong battles take

yeah I'll admit I didn't finish it because of this! About halfway through, there was a battle I couldn't clear and repeatedly getting a game over after 2 hours kinda put me off. I did have fun though and I still think it's worth checking out for fans of the genre and that sort of occult WW2 setting in particular.
