Cook my greens like I'd cook a steak? How am I supposed to sous vide kale, Frank?!

Jumping in about video game unions:

The US NLRB recently issued a revised framework, stating that after a majority of employees put in writing that they want a union, the company has to acknowledge the union or request an election. If the company does anything to dissuade the formation of a union, the NLRB will automatically consider the union official and hold the company in violation against the union.

So, basically, if a company does anything to try to kill a union drive (mandatory union busting meetings, having lawyers visit the site, firing leaders, etc.) the workers can report this to the NLRB, and it's game over for the union busters.

The message from the NLRB is basically, "This is the end of union busting." However, this isn't a law, and any new leadership to the NLRB (Republican or Democrat) could change this. So, it's probably best understood as a fire sale on starting unions. This is the best time to start a union in the US, maybe ever, and there's no guarantee it will last.

Also, regarding the actor's strike, while it's been overblown, the question of digital likenesses in film and TV *is* a big concern for the unions, as there are already companies offering digital likeness contracts to actors which basically allow them to own their bodies, faces, and voices for eternity. However, there is already a framework for this kind of deal that is far more equitable: the video game industry.

Video game companies have been negotiating digital likeness contracts for decades, and VG companies typically do it the same way you contract an actor for any project: you define what you will use the assets for, which is typically a single project.

Production companies are trying to act as if digital likenesses are the wild west, whereas union leadership can easily point to video games and say, "There is a well worn and equitable framework that is already mature here. Your greed is transparent."

So yeah: there's a place where you can actually feel good about the VG industry. David Cage has to keep his creepy digital mannequin of Elliott Page for personal use.

Cook my greens like I’d cook a steak

If you reverse this it could be great advice for your enemies

Cool episode - a nice start to my morning.

I have to ask, as someone who spent time in America but is not American, what's the fascination with hot sauce? I like some spice and then some, but it really seems like it's a much bigger thing than I realised!

And @Jaffe will you keep doing the "who's the (insert director) of video games?" question? As I would love to hear more and have a few directors I'd like to hear the opinions on =)

this is the hot sauce, it's thick and has such a nice heat and flavor:

trader joe's yuzu hot sauce is pretty decent too, it's vinegar based and useful in different situations than the above

@“TomoftheFog”#p134497 And @Jaffe will you keep doing the “who’s the (insert director) of video games?” question? As I would love to hear more and have a few directors I’d like to hear the opinions on =)

I don’t like doing “who is” too often because it always swings towards one of the following:

  • * Kojima
  • * David Cage
  • * Peter Molyneux
  • * Miyamato’s Wife
  • @“Jaffe”#p134502

@“Jaffe”#p134502 Makes sense - hopefully next time you do do it, they‘ll all be a forgotten memory. Or you’ll find a way to punish the panelists for mentioning one of the unnamed!

@“esper”#p134504 Forum game. Place yourself on this graphic.

Staking my claim as a Kojima/Miyamoto's Wife centrist

I finally made an account so I could express just how much I loved the part about describing David Cage's body of work as a long term act of recidivism. Amazing.

@“esper”#p134504 this chart is already my favorite picture of the week

My question was for the Insert Credit podcast! I realise it was a bit of a loaded question but one impetus for it was seeing a lot of social media commentary / understanding of videogame preservation being exactly as Tim and Frank mocked and I was banking on discussion turning to written and oral history. I'd also been experiencing The Making of Karateka at the time, and reading the old letters and documents and watching Jordan Mechner in conversation with his dad was the second impetus for asking the question.

Perhaps it seems obvious to anyone here that videogame preservation goes way beyond dumping roms but going by my observed generalised impression of it, apparently not, and it's great to hear the panel say that history encompasses all sorts of things beyond the games themselves.

    @“LeFish”#p134529 I was just makin’ a joke

@“TomoftheFog”#p134497 im guessing most Americans did not grow up seasoning their food much unless following detailed instructions in a recipe. They lack the skills and habits to season their meals properly. I know I do. Thus when they tire of salt and pepper they reach for the sauce!

Chili peppers are abundant and cheap in the Americas and anyone can make a sauce easily. There is no behemoth sauce though many have tried. We like to talk to each other about which one is the best. And sometimes the [panelists ](https://medium.com/slackjaw/the-eleven-most-boring-conversations-i-can-t-stop-overhearing-f3f98d5ba58d) like to write about how boring this is.

Im a Tapatio guy myself because I saw that it was like 1.29 at the store, purchased it and found it delicious. I just checked and the 5 oz bottle I get is 1.99 at the relatively cheap grocery store near me. I find Tapatio just more to my liking than Cholula, but I do find the 'chili garlic' flavor of Cholula to be pretty yummy. Even though most hot sauces are spicy red sauce, there seems to be a variety to them that makes one picky or choose one over another. Tapatio is vastly different than Frank's, Tabasco, Louisiana, or Srirarcha in both flavor and heat. I'm a Tapatio guy as is my brother. My partner likes Cholula and Frank's Buffalo. My old roommate likes Frank's Original. My other brother perhaps after my parents liked Tabasco, but now he has a variety of sauces I usually haven't heard of.

    Long story short, I dunno!
