Ep. 353 - Selfish Survival, with Holly Nielsen

Also, has Jaffe ever considered just doing some funny voices? We probably wouldn’t even notice the others are gone.

All I ask is that you trick me into thinking Frank is there.

Loved the Amazon Secret Level episode question and I have SO MANY THOUGHTS AND IDEAS. But I won’t share them, because I hope that question comes up again a few times for further idea generation.

The funniest thing about the Job Interview game is that none of the questions or answers had anything to do with Costco.

No more British guests until Atlas Shrugged gets the respect it deserves.

it was momentarily relieving that they don’t have Ayn Rand over there until I realized they probably have an even worse Ayn Rand.

I didn’t learn about Atlas Shrugged till they mentioned it in South Park! The school reading requirements may have changed since I was a wee lad but I can’t see it being pushed into it.

Pick any Conversative party leader since David Cameron onwards.

Or before!

Cool episode, I quite like these two-person episodes every once in a while so that we do hear some more in-depth discussions per topic.

Frequenting my local bookshops regularly, I was aware of Ayn Rand’s books from my early to mid teens but didn’t become aware of who she was as a person until I went to university. I read Anthem because I wanted to broaden my horizons more and because it was mercifully short but I got the gist of who she was as a person pretty quickly from that. Terrible!

Speaking of keeping eliminated players engaged, lots of old co-op action games have a “steal an extra life from your partner” mechanic that can be a bit of a dick-move for the person who has lives to spare depending on how many they have left but it allows lesser skilled players to join in again. I can’t count the number of times that a friend or family member would take my last extra life to resurrect themselves only for me to die almost straight away.

Yeah one can imagine Farage writing the worst novel of all time.

According to Goodreads, Farage wrote a three page book with this title. Was this in like a speech he gave or something? Or is it just nonsense?

I can’t be sure he said it in a speech, but I completely believe he’d say something like that.

The more I think about it, he’s probably read Atlas Shrugged!

It’s an incredible game and very Insert Credit since so many of us are coming out of the woodwork to say it’s such an “obvious” choice.

One of my best friends (who is a computer security researcher) described the game as a “reverse Turing test - find the human”.

Yeah, it’s so cool! Also definitely neat to have so many people know it. I forgot it did actually come out on steam. But I wonder if it hits the same in 2024 when we’re less likely to all hang out in a room :\

Back in highschool in one of those days at the end of a semester where there was nothing to do, I hooked up my laptop to a projector in a multipurpose room and managed to get 8 controllers (people often brought controllers cause it was a weird school) and just left it there with hidden in plain sight running and It was great, there was a constant rotation of people playing all day and people who didn’t play video games got it right away. It was a really cool day. It really lends itself to some people grabbing a controller for 10 minutes and then leaving or other people spending 4 hours playing.
