Oh my goodness! These mics are picking up other conversations a lot more than I anticipated. What is the perfect mic, please tell me.

Close lavalier’s or shotgun. What do you currently use?

They’re close but maybe I need to check direction when I clip them on folks. Using the hollyland lark max. Maybe I’m just using it wrong…

Thanks @exodus for sharing some of your adventure at GDC, and to all the people who took time to answer them! And loved @esper not just reading the outro, but also putting in the sound effect for their name too

No surprise Frank had the best answers.

I was waiting for David to conjure the master. I was not disappointed.

Those seem to have an omnidirectional polar pattern so you could try some lavs that are cardioid (will reject most sound from approx 180° behind.)

It’s a tricky job recording on a show floor so you’re doing pretty well - it’s useable. You also don’t want to fall into the opposite problem of cutting out too much of the environment and negating the vibe of recording on-location.

I like how this is basically an episode-long improv zone.

Fun ep!

Having recently revisted FF8 I could tell Phil really had Squall locked down!

Maybe he can help me locate the lost Final Fantasy 8 magazine insert I took to the salon so they could style my hair like Squalls.

I bet he could, really.

@RubySunrise it absolutely is a whole big improv zone - which is why around 50% of the people I asked said no!!

Cowards, the lot of them!

I was dying at “Steven Pinker”

Perfect pull of a pop philosophy ding-dong out of touch with observable reality.

Besides missles?!?”

Man, I really love the normal format of the show but these audio log episodes from conferences, japan trips and the like are by far my favorites.

Luigi as the first choice with the full explanation of the premise was inspired (and merritt k thrived on the format), and it was smart ordering to have that be very accessible and then to get into some of the deeper cuts. (LOL, Headcrab.)

Liz Ryerson also does an amazing Tails voice. “Sonic!”

Thanks! I chose to do the introduction with Merritt because I knew she’d do a good job and I was 90% sure she’d pick Luigi (even though I had secretly already done a couple of the interviews already).

There’s always ways to improve these but it’s tough when you’re on the fly, finding people outside in the park and harassing them into doing things. Toughest parts are when I don’t know the characters they’ve chosen well enough and just have to say “uh huh” to everything

I was hoping to hear more about what these folks were getting up to at GDC but it was a fun episode.

That Frank Cifaldi guy was pretty good. You should consider having him on the show again some time. What’s he do? Archive.org/gamehistory?
