@treefroggy#20053 the popularity of that album gave me no end of trouble when searching for thrash in the 90s let me tell you.

@treefroggy#20035 You already know :j

in 2018 i was on the verge of admitting i was trans and up late one night watching magic the gathering pro play on youtube. a deck playing the colors blue white and black is known as Esper, so called for a specific setting in the game‘s lore that featured those colors. a deck based around slowing down your opponent and making the game work to your advantage, instead of direct attack, is known as control. “esper control” won the match i was watching, and i’ve been that ever since.
my avatar is Thought Erasure!
i've used a couple different magic cards as avatars before.
A very long time ago I was searching for a new AOL email/username. I was inspired by Megaman X and by an episode of Star Trek: Voyager in which the crew was being hunted by the ST universe's dollar store version of The Predator.
Zero is my favorite character in Megaman X, and he's a Hunter. Hence, HunterZero.
These days I most often go by andreVSworld online which is more self explanatory.
In high school I happened upon a classmate sitting alone in the grass playing gameboy advance. I asked if I could join him and pulled out my own gba and we played games together all lunch.
When we met up the next day a group of girls showed up who already knew this new friend and busted out a bunch of manga and anime stuff. This kind of shocked me because the kid seemed like kind of a loner and I kind of found solace in another person who just wanted to chill and play video games. Plus, these girls were into this cool stuff I was into and it really caught me off guard, so when they asked my name I was kinda shy and quiet and they heard "milo" which is not my real name. They just went with it and it kinda became my nickname all through high school.
I thought it was a good handle because amongst all the long winded and "super cool" handles of the forums I would hang out on back then, I was just "milo".
My avatar is Uncle Death from Let It Die because I think he is cool and hilarious.

The reasoning behind it is... a long story, one that is not really complete right now, even, you could say it has been interrupted. It's personal! I might talk about it some day.
My pfp is actually a [relative,](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4650416/Canuck-killer-crow-stole-knife-crime-scene.html) but I love the picture and it's just kind of a sorta vibe I want to bring into the world.
I'm pretty sure I said my name was Jay in my intro post, that's a short form of my real name that I go by in most places/situations. Only my parents and mother-in-law call me Jason. Also, that one is corvid centric purely by coincidence.
Ha ha! Mine is so straight forward. My name is Robin and once I discovered zip up hoodies in my early 20's I knew I would wear them for life (I like that thunder shirt effect of being able to cover most of my head). My avatar is the super natural monster mother character from my most recent graphic novel. I dunno, its a panel I am really proud of. Here is the actual page.

I‘m loving hearing all these, and it’s cool hearing your name origin esper! I suspected it might have been mtg related or possibly finally fantasy but wasn't sure.
I‘ve used variations on this handle in recent years because I’m an aussie and it's a local slang word I think has a nice ring to it - it is also a reference to a band I liked back in the myspace days.
My av is a reference to another band, an enduring favourite of mine: TISM. The members were anonymous and always wore balaclavas. In their own words, they were "novel, unique, shithouse".

@espercontrol#20069 So many tears and suffering caused by this asshole…

Although losing your win condition or turn 3 to thought erasure then getting a basic land on the draw is another painful painful memory as well. At least until I decided to play esper as well.
I have a pretty tough time choosing usernames. It feels so permanent that I want it to be “perfect”. My idea of a perfect username is a string of only letters that is unique (nobody else anywhere has it ideally but it's hard) and sounds nice. I like the idea of making it an anagram of something that people can “solve”. Basically I want to be named like a fantasy character that does not exist. For example I just made up “Helnad” from “handle”.
Sometimes I disregard all that because it takes effort and just make a [dumb reference!](https://undertale-encyclopedia.tumblr.com/post/154471092051/checking-out-the-snowdecahedron) Oops!
Icon is "ME" from Baba Is You. Purple is my favorite color, fits with the forum theme and I just love that thing...

Back in the early- to mid-2000's I usually had handles related to my favorite characters from some anime or fantasy novel, however, inevitably I would be embarrassed by those names as time went on and my interests shifted. So at some point, I decided to just drop these types of handles, and for a long time I simply used my first name on a few fora (Mathias). However, some years ago when I had to create a handle for the purpose of online accounts I decided that this was perhaps somehow a bit too personal after all, and prefered something slightly removed from my name.
SU2 is an important symmetry group in quantum physics and its fundamental representation is often used to designate a symmetry between two values an object can take. As my last name also starts with an M, I decided to use the handle SU2MM in order to imply symmetry between the two M's. I thought it was kind of neat for anyone who might get it and for the vast majority of people it would simply be a relatively neutral handle.
I have yet to decide on an avatar. I used to have one of Yang Wenli from Legend of Galactic Heroes on many fora, but I guess I have become very self-conscious about utilizing characters from media as part of my online identity.
@Jax#20040 I'm the tenth! This means I can legitimately put X at the end of my name, which is super cool.
My name is Billy, and I have chosen the handle _**billy**_. For secret reasons.
My avatar is Taneo from _Incredible Crisis_. He stands as an important reminder that however improbably, cascadingly difficult your day is, you have to get home in time for grandma's birthday party.
@espercontrol#20069 Thank you for sharing this!
Also I love how games get their own memes and lingo over time. I played Magic when I was in middle school, in the late 90s and early 2000s, and none of these terms used to exist back then. The idea of playing a three color deck was unheard of back then, and now apparently it's so meta it has it's own, cool, FF6 related name. Love that stuff.
@wickedcestus#20034 I always assumed you were a PVP Dark Souls player from Boston.

I took it from this album, back in the early 2000s when everyone on the web was listening to insufferable idm/laptop techno and downloading songs off mp3.com. I can't stand this album now, lol...
Also, whenever swarm is taken on a website I usually just add more A's until one comes available.
So I had 'swaaarm' on a website for like 10 years, and then someone messaged me asking if it was a reference to this Japanese grindcore band '[swarrrm](https://www.discogs.com/artist/358716-Swarrrm)' which I had actually never heard of in my life. It freaked me out!!
I see everyone‘s explaining their avatars as well, so here’s mine:
For you eagle eyes out there, you may have already noticed that it is in fact a screenshot of Hank Hill playing a video game. More specifically, this comes from the episode [Grand Theft Arlen](https://kingofthehill.fandom.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Arlen) from Season 11, Episode 8.
here's some gameplay footage

Mine is pretty boring! I like crows a lot, and being a big dumb weeb in the 90‘s, I decided to use the Japanese word for crow. To add an extra layer of weebery, 90’s me also thought it was not too far off from the Japanese phonetic spelling of my real name, Chris. I‘ve thought of changing it a few times but at this point I’ve used it everywhere for decades.
And I mean my avatar is just a photo of me.
When I transitioned, at first I figured I had to change my name, but then googled “connor unisex name” and found a) cis women named Connor/Conor/Conner and b) huge babies mad that there are women with those names. I was happy, because I had found two excuses to be lazy and keep it.
So yeah it's just my name, but the spelling is silly.
