I donā€™t know what are those TGA that you talk me about. Is this a new dish, like a new smash pumpkin spice burger?

didnā€™t stand-for-nothing-ass-libertarian gabe already say his only regret was taking down a nazi game? heā€™s not gonna do anything about the open nazi recruitment on his medium, because it doesnā€™t threaten his ability to continue making capital

Black Myth Wukong is the most Game Awards coded game I can think of

Iā€™m in these Elden Ring and From Software trash meme groups on Facebook for some goddamned reason and the extremely loud dipshit who thinks Black Myth Wukong was the best game out this year are certainly out there, and itā€™s fuckinā€™ weird, cause none of them seem to be able to articulate concrete reasons as to why it is as good as they say it is. I tend to just assume thereā€™s a silent-yet-implied ā€œbecause itā€™s not woke (allegedly)ā€ rattle of their own personal culture war sabre to those kinds of hyperbolic statements.

For the record I assume the game is fine but what Iā€™ve actually heard about the game doesnā€™t really sound that mindblowing, particularly that though it has a great presentation and decent action it couldnā€™t even really be said to be a *Souls-*like since it doesnā€™t really have exploration or traversal elements, itā€™s just like, linear pathways to boss arenas).

I just assume that the same kind of idiot who is saying Black Myth Wukong is the greatest game of the last decade:

  1. Had that opinion dictated to them in whole or part by some fanatical, deluded ideologue, somewhere
  2. Were probably saying similar if not identical things about Palworld earlier in the year, a game of which none of them talk about at all anymore, certainly not within the context of GOTY discussions but also just not at all
  3. Probably had fun if they played all of it, but only after all but consciously completely shutting down any critical faculties while doing so

Yeah, from everything Iā€™ve seen itā€™s just a nice looking 3rd-person action game (I wouldnā€™t call it a Souls anything), with settings and characters that are more novel to a western audience.

I feel like the big anti-woke game this year was Stellar Blade, but I can see Wukong being a stand-in since Stellar Blade didnā€™t make the cut. Itā€™s a shame because Iā€™m sure lots of people worked on Wukong that arenā€™t weird freaks, but they had to be bad with their PR.

Do you know when he made this comment? Iā€™m trying to find evidence, but canā€™t find any. Iā€™m not saying I donā€™t believe youā€¦ but all the searching Iā€™ve done just keeps coming up with the recent news, and any older news about Steam taking down Nazi games doesnā€™t have any comment from Gabe on it.

Might be referring to him personally apologizing for removing Hatred

I still see freaks online anti-virtue signal by casually namedropping Stellar Blade in conversations about really good games from this year, but I think they know that that game is much harder to pretend is good enough to stay in any serious conversation about the best games of the year, and they also know how easy it is to discredit them by calling them a pathetic coomer for being too vocally dedicated to defending it. I mean, itā€™s not not going to The Game Awards, but only in categories where there isnā€™t much stiff competition.

Ah that game. OK. I donā€™t see how itā€™s specifically a ā€œNaziā€ game. I think itā€™s in poor taste and not something I would ever engage in. Seems like the kind of game created by edgelords just for a reaction. I did try to research the developers and metal band associated with the game but canā€™t find any far-right ties. (It doesnā€™t mean those ties donā€™t exist.) Thereā€™s lots of non-Nazi games made by terrible people in the world.

I donā€™t think Gabe putting this game back is a discredit to Gabe. Now if he does nothing about the growing Nazi presence on the platform itself, then yes thatā€™s a problem and he needs to be publicly called out for it 100%.

that publisher has some not not nazi shit going on (using my Polish insights)

So I think the ā€œanti-wokeā€ nature of Stellar Blade was just manufactured by the anti-woke crowd. I mean, anyone on the left Iā€™ve spoken to about the game has had nothing bad to say about it? It was like the game was made and the salivating coomers were like ā€œHa! Take that woke crowd! We got a game made for us!ā€ Itā€™s like they were desperate for a game with that style of protagonist and would play it regardless of quality. Also it wasnā€™t made for them anyway, but they still claim it as theirs.

I think Black-Myth Wukong was just another game for ā€œGAMERS!ā€ to latch onto and start mouthing off about how only ā€œREAL GAMERS!ā€ could beat it. Just toxic hype and fandom from the start. (Same toxicity could be applied to Stellar Blade.)

Yeah the vibes were always rank around that one. A lot of fascistic stuff gets filtered through that kind of absolute nihilistic misanthropy

Good to know!

I had the unfortunate experience this last week of learning that a friend Iā€™ve had for over twenty years has fallen down the rabbit hole (or, possibly worse, always been there and just went mask off) when they went off on the new Dragon Age getting better reviews than Wukong, complete with the entire spectrum of opinions on ā€œDEIā€, ā€œuglyā€ female characters, and Sweet Baby Inc.

He had no particular insights as to why the game was good, either, curiously enough. I assume he is ecstatic that the game (somehow) got the nod for game of the year, but I have (somehow) not had any interest in talking to him further on the matter
