Super Mario World ROM hack Grand Poo World 3 is finally out. It‘s not something I could play myself, but watching others much more skilled than me struggle mightily against GPW2 and accomplish amazing feats by progressing through the levels was a great source of entertainment. Basically the video game equivalent of Sasuke. The creativity in the level design, the tweaks and reimagining of 30 year old game play, the music and art, all were just as important as the outright difficulty of the game. Of course in the handful of years since GPW2 the mario community has flourished and leveled up themselves both in the skill level of the pros that play these games, and in the creativity of the hack makers. So I am very curious whether or not GPW3 will have the same kind of impact that GPW2 did. Realistically that doesn’t seem possible considering how many amazing hacks there have been (celeste.smc, super sonic saves the world, luminescent, many more). Most likely GPW3 will just be another very very good hack. But it should still be a good time watching and finding out.

@“thebryanjzx90”#p141162 preliminary thoughts: if nothing else I'm thankful for this hack introducing me to this video:

New hack turns the saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast into just the Special Stages.

>

To date, it’s been difficult to experience these special stages [in Sonic 3D Blast Sega Saturn Version] as they are inaccessible through level select, and you can’t quickly retry if you fail one. This ROM hack is a two byte patch that fixes this; it lets you play these special stages back-to-back without going through the primary game. The changed bytes do the following:

>

Switches the game mode from 0 (normal play) to 1 or 2, which activates the special stages with Sonic taken to them by Tails or Knuckles, respectively.

> Allows for the collection of all Chaos Emeralds.

> Feel free to practice: if you fail a special stage, you retry it. Once all seven Chaos Emeralds are acquired, you play stage #6 on repeat. Experience the joy of low-poly 3D Sonic in its purest form!

@“穴”#p142437 finally everyone can learn how mediocre and kinda busted it is, ha ha (sad to say)

I am legitimately glad people can see it for themselves though, I was really like "why didn't this get localized!" for years and then I really sat down and played it and was like... Oh

Getter Love!!: Chō Renai Party Game Tanjō a multiplayer party dating sim game for the n64 is now available in English.

@“KennyL”#p143187 Holy shit! Tengai Makyō II is a bigger ordeal for many reasons (script size, script quality, debugging effort, how the game was coded etc.) but that is a very encouraging step. I hope the translation is of quality.

Yeahhhhh this is big news! Pretty cool for this to come out right after that mini doc too. Hopefully folks get into it and it encourages translation of the second game!

aw man didn‘t see that one on cd romance yet so i slept…i know i’m a broken record here but realllllly hoping the turbo everdrive (or something similar) gets a workaround for duo systems to read disc images next year, this is exactly the kind of thing i'd want that for!

i can always burn discs like back in the day but i want modern-ish solutions for my ancient problems

Oh wow, very exciting news! Patching it is kinda complicated, but I think I‘ve got it up and running. Might drop everything to play this; I’ve been so curious about this series for a very long time.

Also check out the cutting room floor page the dev of this patch made - so much unused (or hidden) cool stuff in here! There's a complex sequence of events to perform, which if done correctly will trigger an “easter egg” flag, after which if you do a bunch of OTHER specific stuff you can get access to all kinds of silly extra scenes. You can go behind the curtain of a kabuki play to find some members of the dev team, who will say their names when you talk to them, but also will freak out if you touch one of the keyboards. Great stuff!!

Yes!

wow ok sorry I don‘t know why I misfired into two threads last night (obviously Keighley’s fault), please excuse me.

@“connrrr”#p143342 Team Ninja should get the greenlight to make a Nioh-like starring Impa and Sheik. Set it in the OoT era just before adult Link shows up in the future.

oh man. this, and all the other things nintendo could have/should have been doing since 2005.

@“sdate”#p143372 pleaseee I've only been waiting a hundred years
