yeah the only possible issue there is gil, really.

tryhards will also tell you some pieces of the crafted gear (which you can also buy off the market board, mind) are bis for progging the raids but take it from someone who’s done this a number of times: as long as you’re at appropriate ilvl, you’re fine. every piece of gear you go into the raids with is there to be replaced anyway, so don’t break the bank buying gear for progging cause it gives you more of this or that substat.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Not to mention, even if they are better in a way that is relatively significant (key word relatively), that probably also depends on you overmelding 5 materia them, which is a whole other layer of excessive expenditure.

All that being said, the crafting is fun, and, in my humble (and insane) opinion, the best and most fun way to level crafting is to first level all of the gathering jobs (FSH optional but not unhelpful), and then level all of them all at the same time (in my personal experience it also helped my leveling all of the crafting jobs at once to be horrifically depressed, unemployed, and under monumental outside pressure and stress, so that you can use FFXIV to cope with all of that, but I do not recommend ruining your life on purpose just to be able to excel at leveling crafting).

Long story short is that in this respect FFXIV is not like World of Warcraft where it’s sensible for almost every player to engage with a few Professions on the side. Do it if you want but I imagine there have got to be lots of players who don’t touch it at all and even if they do they certainly don’t engage with it with any sort of regularity.

Also here is my character’s lodestone page: Gaagaagiins Kwe | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone

Femroe for life man…

I pranced between main jobs pretty much every expac, but, the Jobs I’ve liked most would probably be Red Mage and Dark Knight.

I am on Excalibur, but, I am not currently subbed and not sure I want to be any time soon… I dunno, I flip flop back and forth between thinking “well yeah I gotta play it” and “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh I’m not in a rush to do it, maybe I’ll even skip this expac.” I’m one of those longtime freaks who feels quite fatigued from the game’s formulaic content grist mill, and I keep pining for a long lost time when the game had more interesting quirks and even weird shitty-yet-idiosyncratic qualities. I’m kinda tired of dungeons just being pretty corridors, even if the corridors have gotten so impressively pretty over the years. And even though I don’t have the time or computer or internet connection or dexterity in my hands for serious raiding, the predictable raid format has long lost its sheen. Not to mention even if it didn’t serious raiding without a static is miserable, frustrating, with a relatively low rate of success, but it still takes a lot of time and effort. But, like, I don’t wanna have to fuckin’ meet people either.

I think my reluctance to sub again could also be from the graphical update. As much as I think the game was starting to show its age visually, I also still thought it was a great looking game, so for me the graphical update just represents a chance that the game will perform worse on my now quite aged computer.

I just heard an npc (Berkoeya Loethalsyn) use the expression “horse’s arse” tonight, and I’m freaking out a little because horses are supposed to be mythological creatures in Final Fantasy.

The XIV on Mac launcher added DXMT last month (direct translation of D3D11 to Metal). It’s really cool stuff although today I got this glitch that turned my adventurer into Sharon Apple.
