In response to the request for comments at the end: I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of these gaiden episodes. I don’t want you to feel pressured to make them on this frequency again, or on any sort of deadline — but I’ll happily continue to listen if/when a new one arrives.

A nice time was had by all!

The PC Engine game title that Brandon and John could not remember near the end, between Blue Dragon and Moto GP2, is **Gekisha Boy**. The PS version called (Simple 1500 Series Vol.94) **The Cameraman** is a port of the PC Engine version. As remembered by John, the sequel is in fact a PS2 game and not this PS1 release.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyO2nCjNdDc

I thought these Gaiden episodes were great. They were not necessarily all my jam but there was a cool "omnibus" eclecticism about the breadth of formats, topics and guests. It gave a magazine-like quality to the series that is very different from the "reliable uniformity" favored by most podcasts (IC included).

Quite frankly, I am not sure why they were posted on top of regular episodes; they would have made for perfect filler weekly episodes while everyone could chill out, take a holiday or focus on other projects. But maybe I am in the minority thinking this and people want their weekly panel!

I am prone to taking the soundtrack of the podcast for granted but Kurt Feldman is a great musician.

A lovely way to end the spin off series… for now (I hope!) I'd just finished the DF episode on Road Rash hosted by John

so it was quite a coincidence for him to appear here as well!

Thanks to all involved for taking time to do these and I for one will look forward to episode eight or -1 or whatever it's called whenever it appears. Take your time, good things come to those who wait!

Saizeriya actually has their own private label wines. They're absolutely terrible! (In an interesting way. A glass of wine from Nagoya is around $1.30)

@“Neko”#p146003 shoot, what a time to be alive

Sonic Spinball music can be pretty awesome when you forego the GEMS arrangements which shipped in the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9sQ3SUKXXk

I have never set foot in a Saizeriya despite seeing them everywhere, but I did go to a Johnathan‘s, which also has an unlimited drink station option for soda, coffee and tea, and stays open for 24 hours I think? I sure did have a lot of fanta melon. Maybe next time I’ll check out Saizeriya.

I also get both Gunner's Heaven and Panzer Bandit mixed up with eachother, but that's mostly because I discovered them at the same time when searching for games like Gunstar Heroes and Guardian Heroes back in the early 2000s and was looking to get both of them at the time (only managed to snag Gunner's Heaven).
Fill-In-Cafe makes a Guardian Heroes-like after Treasure's Guardian Heroes allegedly got some inspiration from Fill-In-Cafe's Mad Stalker. It's a really good game, but I kinda prefer Guardian Heroes more. However I think Panzer Bandit's walking areas being split into two instead of three segments is better in some ways.

The Zeiram game for the Super Famicom starts off really cool, and does actually have more weapons than just a kick, but ends up losing its luster after the second or third mission. It had so much potential to be really cool and it just kinda feels almost like a janky licensed Euro/US game with very after-thought-y level design.

Choukousoku GranDoll on the PSX feels like a better version of what Super Fami's Zeiram was. Zeiram Zone is neato.

@“JJSignal”#p146031 hmmm maybe I should actually give the SFC zeiram a go. I will admit I thought it only had a kick because I watched a longplay. I'm the person I complain about!!

@“exodus”#p146040 Make no mistake, it's still a bit shit, but it sure does trick you with how it presents some of its concepts. It has the potential of being Good, but ultimately devolves into mostly bad and disappointingly bland.

Good accompanying video to this episode, released a few hours ago.

https://youtu.be/hPdR9XOLBnc

hello all! i have one more end of year gift for you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRZX4ikngKY

i put a good deal more elbow grease into the video version of this episode, trying to include footage (or at least some visuals or box art) for each game mentioned. it came out kind of like an hour long version of the old Twitter clips I used to make, and i encourage you to check it out!! lotsa wild games I'd never heard of before, with some pretty striking stuff going on. take a seat at the saizeriya next to brandon and john, and enjoy!

thank you very much for the video version, loved to see more of these games that i knew nothing about

was nice to have a lil more context, weather it was the cover art, some gameplay, or screenshots

very fun episode

also helped me get back home in below freezing temperatures (-17 Celsius, yowza!)

im warming up now thankfully

>

@“Tom of the Fog”#p145991 I’d just finished the DF episode on Road Rash hosted by John

>
so it was quite a coincidence for him to appear here as well!

I was just watching that video and the name of the person who did the original music for the video sounded familiar and then I realzied it was @andrewelmore!

@“穴”#p146162 it was super fun!! John's always excellent to work with and just an all around good pal. i love that he put the temp track names in the credits lol.

also!

I tried to gather every game i have that was mentioned in this episode into one picture, some of which came from our very own [SALE thread](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/336-sale-thread) (such as @exodus' old copy of virtual on, for example)!. I'm sure i missed some stuff, but huge thanks to @espercontrol for some _exceptionally_ thorough show notes!

@“andrewelmore”#p146175 that‘s a fun exercise! A lot of games were mentioned so that’s a but of an undertaking

Thanks for the side story podcasts. Having a rotating guest of the week and wildly differing topic made this one really interesting. I know the logistics of doing something like this going forward can be difficult, but would love to see this “guest and a theme” style down the road.

And please, please please please, continue doing them on-location. Having the Saizeriya background noises made me nostalgic for some ファミレス shenanigans.

Hey @espercontrol amazing work as always. Have you tried fancier background noise removers? I played around with Nvidia RTX Voice and it's pretty good I think. It needs GTX or RTX gpu so this specific one might not fit your workflow.

Here is original sound from this episode.
https://soundcloud.com/user-990020882/ic-rtx-voice-off?si=2557c4730d6f40a5b65d53e9b066757f&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

Here is RTX Voice at full strength. BG noise is almost completely gone but not good cuz it sounds like people are under water. Very uncomfortable.
https://soundcloud.com/user-990020882/ic-rtx-voice-100?si=0ff885d9f11541d88aea1851ece47fdd&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

Here is at around 75%. Not too bad I think.
https://soundcloud.com/user-990020882/ic-rtx-voice-75?si=7e936a574d4346e78d22717caba9d8be&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

I meant to add, I like the insert credit-y approach to the “what weird old stuff have you bought lately” because it inherently makes time for discussions about cool weird stuff that might not otherwise get brought up! It‘s also just a good way to learn about new stuff to check out. I don’t want pc engine recommendations from no dang algorithm robot.
