I love Fragile Dreams to death, so it‘s no surprise that one of the first things that caught my attention when I first heard the music in it was Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Slightly off topic, but it's funny that this topic popped up just as I was listening to Propaganda and hearing The Murder of Love and being like, "Whoa wait why is this so familiar sounding?" and suddenly realizing Trunks' theme, Battle Point Unlimited, in DBZ uses the bass line... and kind of almost everything else in this song. Added time markers.
Battle Point Unlimited

And then Propaganda's The Murder of Love.

My mind was blown. Both good songs. It works really well when Trunks appears but I had a good laugh recognizing it when listening to the source in The Murder of Love. Should have just called it The Murder of Frieza, since that's when everyone first hears it in the series.
[EDIT]: UPDATE, the anthem-y sounding spot earlier in Battle Point Unlimited also lifts from Propaganda's p:Machinery hahaha.
Because I mentioned DBZ and music, I can't leave this without also dropping a less lifted work and more of a tribute with Solid State Scouter, which feels like a mishmash of Solid State Survivor and Technopolis from YMO. Obviously an actual tribute and not being sneaky.
Solid State Scouter. If this is playing in Dragon Ball FighterZ then I get a speed boost when fighting. I love this song.

When I heard the DBZ propaganda song I didn‘t even need to listen to the propaganda track to realize how much they used. wow!!! (I’m always thinking about propaganda)
This is where the soundtrack did (well almost did) the plagarism: The original Final Fantasy VIII demo that was released with Brave Fencer Musashi had a different piece of music to the released game:
While no reason was ever given to why it wasn't in the full game, I still think it is because it sounded far too much like this one:
Here's the released version (which I don't like as much as the demo, just because I played the demo first):
I‘ve been playing Wild Arms for a week and somehow it just now occurred to me that the world map theme is an upbeat homage to The Ecstasy of Gold from The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. I wasn’t even spending that week thinking “this sounds familiar” I was just getting dressed this morning, the song playing in my head and it just subconsciously transitioned into the Morricone theme
I am going to assume this was intentional since it‘s @Chopemon’s game but someone pointed out to me the degree to which the paradise killer main theme is Sparkle.
If you squint your ears a little bit this Digimon Cyber Sleuth song sounds very Nier-esque around the 30second mark.

Haven't studied music in a very very long time but it does share a bit of a chord progression with this Nier Replicant song(s).

Not sure if there is an influence there. I know certain keyboards let you run through an entire arpeggio through a press of a single key (if you call these arpeggios) so I can see how you can achieve a similar effect. A mate and I managed to get a lot of that Crystal Castles album 1 sound this way too.
@exodus A case could be made for Chopin‘s Prelude in E minor, since the melody features similarly persistent half-step repetitions over descending chromatic chords (Sylphia’s music also happens to be in E minor as well). But both these tracks take it into a triple meter which (to me!) makes them feel a little more immediately related. Unless you're thinking of something else!
@Funbil oh yeah, that‘s totally what I was thinking of. But you’re right, it's different enough. Extremely suspicious for a game this specific and relatively obscure (sylphia) to have such a close imitator without at least an adjacent composer. I want to get to the bottom of this one somehow!
