Outstanding and unsettling, but I like that it’s mostly written from the perspective of “absolute weirdo with crushing loneliness”

I agree. It might be my favorite of the year if only for the fact that the whole package delivered on (and surpassed) my growing expectations after he put out Holy, Holy. i’ve only found a few examples of playing a character on an album that work for me, and from the consensus of my friends, they still find the lyrical content dubious. maybe I’m too gung-ho, but I found it all pretty winkingly sex-crazed and misanthropic; it’s highlighting how ridiculous this person is while forcing you to take a step back and think about the crucible of relationships (including with himself) that created this guy.
There are moments that make you connect on a weird level of “i know how stupid it would be of me to touch the stovetop, so obviously I won’t, but I appreciate the candor with which this character speaks given he’s obviously a serial stove-toucher”
