hardware showoff

@“donrumata”#p47103 the retro-bit Genesis and Saturn controllers are the easiest recommendation in the world! Excellent quality, feel as good as any of the real deal controllers I own, if not better (age hasn’t been kind to some of them). Packaging is better than it needs to be—each one comes in a nice plastic box with usb and console receivers and a USB cable. On top of that, price is reasonable and the color selection is very nice (I’m waiting patiently for them to release a Saturn version of this gorgeous red Genesis pad).

@“kory”#p47086 that's a clean machine!

@“exodus”#p47101 Haha, no worries, happy to hook you up! It’s actually not that many, all told (maybe a dozen or so, I’ll double check later), and I’m pretty sure all of them came from cdromance.

Archive.org has you covered @“exodus”#3 , REDUMP members keep their personal archives full of Saturn libraries from each region, very close to complete with lists of what games they’ve been unable to rip so far.

Also I recommend that wireless Saturn pad, because you can use it on Genesis and any other console with the same brand receiver. I always wanted to use a Saturn pad on genesis and it was impossible.

@“kory”#p47105 Those retro-bit Saturn pad are great for sure! 8bitdo ones has lower latency but I'm not latency sensitive and these retro-bit ones look and feel pretty much like the real thing so big big plus. Including both usb and Saturn receivers is also big big big plus. Only issue I had was battery drain when not using. Firmware update might have fixed it for me, not exactly sure. I gotta do more test.

@“exodus”#3 stuff gets taken down, so look at their friends list and add others. they all keep redundant backups of the same REDUMP sets.

Thanks for accommodating this “first world problem” hardware anxiety post.

Now I’m here to show off that I returned the PS5 bundle in its entirety and won’t negotiate with terrorists (won’t be forced to purchase things I don’t want). I’d better hang out in the Games for Cheapskates thread for now.

I spent yesterday dealing with a clock cap spill in this here Xbox, then softmodding it (successful).

Today I thought I'd back up all the game saves and write-enable the TSOP for flashing, which involves bridging two headers on the mobo and allows for more flexibility in upgrading the hard drive. Straightforward, I thought. Remember how some of those old Xbox saves were copy-protected? Also, I really need to clean my iron, or buy another tip for it (I will probably just buy another tip).

The best thing I (re)discovered rooting around in this thing and which has somewhat soothed me after wasting a beautiful Sunday was all these hardcore albums loaded onto the hard drive. I bought my Xbox in Montreal off Craigslist in probably 2010. Picked up somewhere around Vendôme metro station, if you were curious. The games it came with were not remarkable, but I'd completely forgotten or overlooked the seller's music:

>

Day of the Death, Death by Stereo

Under Attack, Final Fight

Easter, These Arms Are Snakes

Death Knows Your Name, The Hope Conspiracy

This is a Spark Of Life, Zombie Apocalypse

A playlist! Mainly for me, cause it's not often I get a a whole genre curated for me by a time capsule from the 2000s.

@“connrrr”#p47571 Next stop is the harddrive upgrade. The custom soundtrack function is one of the best things about the OGXBOX. I can't tell what DVD drive is in there, but if its a Panasonic drive it should be able to read CDrs if you want to add your own mixes to your games.

@“robinhoodie”#p47573 It's a Philips VAD6011/21! Which seems to work with some CD-Rs. I very much missed out on this feature when the console was current.

@“connrrr”#p47574 YES! Phillips is what I meant. That one even works with CDRWs. It takes Out Run 2 Coast 2 Coast a whole other level when you've got your own mix on it. Tony Hawk also gets a boost when you can expand the soundtrack.

Found my old MD player, still works like a charm!

The gumstick battery door is stuck, but fortunately the AA battery holder works fine. This thing was really peak Sony design...just as big as it needs to be, a lovely smooth matte magnesium case, and a weightiness that assures the fine-timepiece-like precision engineering packed inside. I shared some of what I found on the MDs in the pouch over [on another thread](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/108-music-that-nobody-knows-about/228).

I'm running out of space for my controllers! I would pick up more of these Ropak bins if I knew where to find them but also I think the bendable plastic hinges are destined to wear out eventually and I should probably replace them with something more durable anyway?

My Wonderwitch USB cable came in very recently so I’ve been exploring the library on that a bit. Very cool games on there. And some interesting non-games as well.

This game is called Testarossa. It’s sort of a zelda-like in tate orientation. It’s a WWGP entry from I believe the first year they did those. I was very surprised at the level of quality here, it’s really surprisingly well made.

This is Mucos, a sequencer. I don’t know much about music but it’s fun to poke around with. You’ve got a piano roll, a bunch of instruments to choose from, you can adjust the tempo, volume, and left-right balance (if you have stereo headphones). Also supports multiple channels. You can get pretty detailed with it actually.

The last one here is Cardinal Sins. This is another shmup from the developers of Judgement Silversword. This game is way too manic to get a decent picture of the game, but it’s excellent. Amazing music, buttery smooth framerate, and great gameplay as you would expect from M-KAI. This one is sort of unique in that it’s broken up into trials. One where you want to get your kill percentage as high as possible, one where you want to collect as many 1-ups as possible (while also not shooting them, because they explode!), or just survive an onslaught from a particularly intense boss. It’s an incredible game, and probably the strongest recommendation I can make out of what I’ve played so far.

Out this week on Switch in Japan! Cardinal Sins and Judgement Silversword are both playable inside **Eschatos** (from the same team) as bonus contents. The Western release is in their future plans.

I really need to sort out the wonderwitch cable situation. I‘ve got the cart, but not the rest of the accoutrements, so I can’t load anything up. I need a caaaaaaaableeeeeeeeeeeee

@“chazumaru”#p48458

Yeeeeeesssss. It's so good.

I went through [retroonyx](https://www.retroonyx.com/product-page/wonderswan-usb-link-cable). It's kind of an insane amount of money to pay for a cable, but in my case I got the cart for a song so I could sort of justify it. I can't really blame him either, he's making these things by hand and they're very high quality. The thing that's sorta sweet about the Wonderwitch (and the P/ECE) is that you can dig into the developers and find out that a lot of them are still working. Testarossa, for example, was developed by some people that would later contribute to Persona 4 Arena and so on. These homebrew games are largely unarchived but contain a lot of history.

@exodus I have some Retroonyx stuff, Virtual Boy controller extension + AC adapter and his Dreamcast Serial Link Cable). Yeah it is NOT cheap, but it is very high quality.

Can’t help but love MegaMan Legends. Colors based on the Apple Market section.

@“mr-domino”#p48482 looks great! I like when fight sticks have non-fighting game art. Here’s my sticks: [upl-image-preview url=//i.imgur.com/rwo5kd8.jpeg]
