High Grade People in a Perfect Grade World

why make GReco or GWitch MG kits when you can just keep making a billion SEED and 00 variants

It looks like it won’t be showing anywhere near me! But that’s okay-- I’m not much of a movie theatre person, so I’ll just wait to stream it, someday.

I mean YES, but I have to admit to liking many of the 00 designs, myself. SEED I could do without though.

Some yacht-whining from me: I’m a little irritated that my tacky gold MG shipped back on 2/11 and somehow hasn’t gotten here yet! I guess the heavy snow back east must be holding things up or something.

What have you people done to me? I found a vintage beginners model at a thrift store. I’m a bit terrified at the idea of painting this thing.

I did a MG Wing Zero EW that has been on my backlog forever.

Oh no. I figured out how I’m going to paint the enterprise. Dazzle camouflage. A brief window when torpedoes were manually aimed by observation and calculation. This camouflage was meant to make the velocity of a ship hard to calculate by observation. The Eva that enveloped Shinji is reminiscent of it

speaking of EVA, I have Unit 00 and Unit 02 RG kits built along with the positron rifle and a hand painted fan made shield from the the Rebuild series, but I also have the very cool Angel models from the 90s LM run to build some day when I have all that time I’ve been looking for.

I love these old kit boxes, please post pictures of the finished thing!

Got my two holy grail kits in the mail!!

MG Turn X was once pretty easy to find but they haven’t reprinted it in a long time so it’s hard to get now. Sumo 1/100 is an old kit from 1999 and they’ve never made a more modern version. It’s the very shiny gold that I think @Karasu‘s new kit is lol

Thank you Yahoo Japan Auctions. I’m moving on Saturday so can’t build yet but can’t wait to get these done!

Those are some super good looking kits!!

The one is indeed like mine, although I think mine might have slightly yellower gold (at least it looks yellower than the standard Hyaku Shiki kit). I haven’t had time to start either and I’m also waiting on some finishing tools to arrive. Turns out it’s just a recolour of an existing kit (the Hyaku Shiki Crash, which is boringly grey).

Gunpla Builders World Cup was a couple days ago and they streamed the awards, some cool stuff here! The U-14 kids are so precious!!

When doing detailed line work, do you folks mask the area? What about for curves. Is there a beginners video? Controlled fine line work is a genuine weakness of mine. In the past when I had to do drafting work I would just use templates for such things but for obvious reasons this can’t really be applied to a to surface. I’d have to manually cut making tape to make masks and lord that seems like wretched work.

I managed to score one of these from my local gunpla shop and I’m really looking forward to it since it’s got some really good looking mechanics. Kinda wild how scarce these seem to be!

Finished up the 1/100 Sumo from Turn A Gundam!

This kit is from 1999 and it is very much a kit that is stuck in the past from a building perspective. Tons of polycaps that are annoying to work with and zero undergating so there are lots of nubs marks where you snip the plastic because the gold is only a thin coating.

But I think the finished product looks really good overall! I might panel line some select parts but honestly it’s pretty sick as a straight build because the design and color separation are pretty strong. Very happy with it!

MG Turn X done!

Really cool kit, the only other one you can say is anything like it is the MG Turn A which is also a super weird fantastic build. Syd Mead the GOAT.

Those ∀ Gundam designs are just amazing!

I’ve been plugging away at a few kits myself-- I haven’t photographed anything because I haven’t done any finishing on the ones I’ve built, and I’m trying to decide how much of that I want to do. But so far I’ve built the MG Exia and I’m almost done with the Full Mechanics Aerial Gundam, both as a sort of practice for my tacky gold Hyakushiki kit. It’s wild to me how much difference in technology there is between a 16 year old kit and one released maybe a year or so ago. I think because I’ve been out of kit building and keeping up with Gundam shows even, a kit from Gundam 00 feels like it came out a few years ago, but that’s just me being an old person whose sense of time passing is seriously messed up.

It’s kinda strange though how much my taste in these things has changed. I’m finding myself less and less interested in more standard, UC designs, and more interested in the weirder side of it all, like the Z and ZZ enemy designs, ∀ Gundam, and the newer non-UC Gundams, like Aerial (which is just gorgeously designed) and even the Barbatos.

I’ve also really got to decide how much I want to commit to painting these things-- @sabertoothalex do you paint your kits?

I don’t paint them outside of small details. Like on the MG Turn A there are small spots that need red paint to be anime accurate and I paint those with a Gundam Marker because it’s easy. Otherwise I just panel line them. One day I would like to get an airbrush though!

I recently bought some top coat which is the next step up from just panel lining. A flat coat will take that plastic shine away.
