Hello.
My brain shut off when he said “get rid of the boxes”.
This is why I only collect loose. Box free, baby
He just up and chucked them! Get emulators at that point sakurai!!
Possibly fails on the space aspect but I bought a bunch of display stands from SyncoplayRetroGaming specifically for my cartridge-based games:
The handheld ones hold up to five carts, but steps can be skipped to show the full front label for the taller carts like GB/C. The seller has an image specifically highlighting height/width/depth information if you want to get real mathsy with it (I filled up four small notebook pages with measurement planning for my displays).
I do like these! but once you get to having 50 gba games you’re in trouble with this method.
I did exactly this about a decade ago. I don’t have many of the cases anymore (thanks to needing to move house super regularly at that time and getting sick of the bulk they added) but I had a good time building them and designing the inserts.
Now that’s what I call a cassette boy!
a gba clone console shaped like a gba which takes snes controllers is really not the worst idea. If I didn’t have a game boy player on my gamecube I might go for one of those.

i saw that same post over on the bsky and thought “oh i saw some activity on the forum’s gameboy displaythread maybe i should share it there”
I got these recently and they work great for a little bit of showing and a lot of storing. Not airtight or anything like that though.
Interesting! I see they’re not very deep drawers, how many games does each hold?
sweet collection. I like that the top row is all the early ESRB logo first print editions of the games.
The GB drawer can hold 15 cartridges with space enough to flip through and see the front. 17 if the cartridges are packed in completely. With 10 total shelves I’d be in trouble real quick if I was more frequently collecting, but I think this matches my pace.
The GBA drawers can hold 14 with enough space to flip through. Can’t pack them in any more than that because of the cartridge lip. With 20 total shelves I should be pretty good for a while, although I’m using some of them for some odds and ends that happen to fit leaning or lying down like so:
@treefroggy Thank you! I never noticed that about the ESRB logo, haha. One more thing to balance when trying to reasonably alphabetize while also keeping some favorites in the front.
Yeah. You can unsee it. There are many, many game boy games that remained in print long after their initial release (mostly pokemon), and it is quite a difference to me whether it has the original ESRB font (white fill) vs the later (black fill). They are referred to as “first edition” by collectors (annoying), but nevertheless, they’re the ones I had, remember, and want.
This is the overly complicated, expensive, and space inefficient way to do this but I made custom DS case covers (and used some I found online) for my NGPC games. It’s a fun photoshop task to do for each game and end up looking pretty good. And much cheaper than buying the cib euro snapcase versions (which are admittedly what I wish I had)
I that’s dope! I would do this, I have only a couple loosies, somehow I remember the snap cases even though I am from the US. I mainly had JP cardboard cartons. I should at least make one of these for my copy of Dark Arms.
