Recently I’ve been watching some UK TV again, and in one of the shows a regular guest keeps appearing: John Cooper Clarke AKA The Bard of Salford who is known as a punk poet. For a career of over 40 years, there’s so much of his work out there and if you’re interested in UK life, he’s a great example of the sort of struggles and thoughts people had, specifically in the North but also life in general.

Too many to choose from, but this one really makes me smile, I’ve Fallen in Love with My Wife

and this is probably his most famous work, I Wanna Be Yours

@yeso I mention you as a probable fan if you haven’t heard of him, when you read on the wiki page some of the bands he’s toured with may give you an idea of his work and who he has influenced:

He toured with Linton Kwesi Johnson, and performed on the same bill as bands such as the Sex Pistols, the Fall, Joy Division, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Elvis Costello, Rockpile and New Order

I am a JCC fan yeah. I think if people in the US are aware of him it’s because of the “Evidently Chickentown” drop in The Sopranos. You’ve seen 24 Hour Party People right?

I had a feeling you’d be aware of him, if not a fan. Didn’t realise both he was known in the US and 24 Hour Party People made it there too. It’s one of about six DVDs I actually own. Of course now you say the film, I’d be more shocked you didn’t know it!
