I guess it can't be helped: the anime thread.

Zankyo no Terror is such a weird swing for Shinichiro Watanabe I wonder how he ended up picking it. I guess just to go left field. It feels so modern in a way that he’s usually quite anachronistic and kind of against what I associate with designs he uses. I don’t remember it very well.

I watched both of these in college and Perfect Insider was my buddy’s jam, I remember thinking it was pretty cool, but it has that kind of, adapting big novel into anime thing where some stuff just feels off. Similar to like a Shin Sekai Yori, but i felt like that stuck landing a bit better.

I saw Perfect Insider when it aired, and i just skipped the last episode, since it seems to be a weird epilogue. As a programmer i loved the solution, it is such a weird little thing that it will always remember the show fondly for that. It was a very very talkative show, and went weird places.

Has anyone else watched NieA_7? Downloaded the dub by accident but it’s really good (episode 3 still has me feeling icky, but I’m halfway through and just going to power through since I love everything else about it) - episode 5 felt like a very IC-coded one; on one hand it’s so nice to have a show about a working poor person, on the other hand it’s sad that there’s so few if any of them

Also the Ending song is a treat every time

I don’t remember much about it other than it and the opening for Gasaraki were the only things I enjoyed from the couple of times I visited anime club in college. It was by the same guy as serial experiments lain I think?

The gasaraki soundtrack had me so convinced that the Anime was profound that I watched it twice. I still don’t remember anything about it other than the music.

I always wanted to actually watch Gasaraki, i have the files i torrented years ago somewhere. But anytime i see the first ep, i’m convinced that it wants to be deep but it is just nonsense. Someday i will watch it.

Also, Gasaraki… that is a throwback. To think that the first time i watched it was on a Latin American Cable TV Anime channel that is long dead.

Fall has started, and I think there’s a show that might look very promising (and long). It’s Orb: On the movements of the earth.

Mind you, the trailer has very untrustworthy English subtitles, but you get the gist of it.

I watched the first two episodes, and the show itself not only has a nice premise, but so far seems very intriguing as for characters and their own nuancy. Of course, this would not be as compelling as Vinland Saga, but it seems like it’s something that will stand out if it’s going the way it’s going.

Kinda surprised people aren’t going wild over the fact that episode one of Dandadan has dropped and it’s completely bonkers (oops, looks like the theatrical release got a mention, sorry I missed that!)

I hesitate to say almost anything about it and just let everyone see it fresh!

I just watched it because of this post and while I knew a bit of the premise the tone and aesthetic were much wilder than I was expecting. Really enjoyed it and will be tuning in going forward

We talked about it in the podcast a little - I’ve not seen the Anime but I’ve read the manga, so I think I’ll wait for the full season before I watch. Gotta put some space between interacting with the individual media properties so I don’t burn out!

But yeah it’s generally pretty good and most characters are not annoying until much later.

In a totally separate discussion, everyone kept recommending delicious in dungeon so I’ve watched a few eps. First of all, yes, there’s constant eating and talking with full mouths so I have to have it muted like 20% of the time.

But second, does this show ever become something about how cool it is to kill and eat animals? From the people that recommended it I’m kinda surprised but that seems to be the main drive? And then that classic philosophizing about how killing things is actually respectful to them and to the cycle of life? If that’s what this remains about I’m just gonna scrap it.

If anything I would say it eventually becomes less about eating and more about the overarching storyline, but that takes a bit and I frankly have no clue where the anime ends up

Not to echo myself above but the Dandadan anime is such an incredible production and I’m having a ball with it. Pretty much best possible studio for the source.

maybe i am delusional but i genuinely thought there was a chance we don’t get much more anime from Anno so I am very very excited.
