I guess it can't be helped: the anime thread.

Not sure to what degree the specific things you’ve heard have stuck but try not to read too much about it until after watching.

I saw it years ago and ran out of steam right before getting to the movie for some reason—silly because that’s why I wanted to watch the series in the first place.

Voted yes, and mirroring the other replies that it may not have aged the best? To be honest I haven’t gone back to it since watching it in high school and even then I feel like the “culture” had moved on.

The movie on the other hand is really good. I’ve gone back and watched the movie more than the series at this point.

Studio 4°C are doing their own adaptation of All You Need is Kill (the first one being, of course, Edge of Tomorrow).

Whoa, I think I’ve only seen the two shows* and never the movie.

*actually I just recalled that I plucked Endless 8 out of series 2 and mainlined that. Haven’t gone back for the rest yet lol

To be honest no idea how I sat through endless eight in high school without quitting.

But def check out that movie! One of kyoto animation’s best imo!

being greeted with a slightly different episode every week for two months must have been tough, but marathoning them on crunchyroll is really fun.

It wouldn’t have been the first appearance of anime Tom Cruise!!

Thought it was just a visual gag but you weren’t kidding

I forgot how closely the dialogue matched the role it was parodying

Would be weird to watch Magnolia again post-Andrew Tate

Did I miss somebody mentioning Zenshu? I’m so skeptical of isekai shows these days, since there are so many that ‘isekai show making fun of isekai shows’ has become its own genre, but hang in there with it. It starts out slightly slow but then once it takes off it just keeps going.

Feel like I remember some Eureka Seven talk here a while ago. It’s the 20th anniversary this year and seems they are doing some sort of thing for it. Either way they posted a fun AMV with the first opening :)

Ah, maybe i was part of that with my usual take that only the first half of Eureka 7 is good and the rest is absolute trash. The spinoffs are not very good also, imho.
Someone should bring back good surfing robots.
