Get in the Car, Loser is largely about this type of grief. I didnât find it particularly performative for a cis audience, and I appreciate and relate to how the main character ends up navigating it all.
Thematic spoilers, wrapped in my own analysis:
Itâs about embodying all of it, the grief and loss, as well as the joy, gratitude, and possibility of the present. Her capacity for it is relational, both in a âpower of friendshipâ way, but also her relationship with society at large, cooperatively and defiantly respectively.
Mod Update:
Hey friends! I wanted to let you all know of a new category we are adding to the sidebar for Communities. It will be a new way to highlight some topics like this, which speak to different communities, identities, and support networks within the forum. I invite everyone to use this tag when you feel itâs relevant (Iâve selected some female, LGBTQ, and mental-health related topics to get us started).
I have also added a sub-tag for âSupportâ to help highlight that this thread is being used as a peer support space to discuss sensitive topics. I encourage people to continue using spoiler tags and continue to be mindful about catching others off guard when discussing potentially triggering issues.
Thanks for keeping this a supportive and inclusive space!
