I’ve got racing brakes installed.
Heck yeah, agree with @rejj, and let’s definitely bring this back!
You chose a real doozy for this round, but let’s do it!
New to this thread, so was doing some back scrolling to see what rules, if any, there are/were. But looks like we take a week, work on times/scores, and at the end see who’s on the podium, and winner chooses next game?
Had some time this morning before work to set a first run time. Playing emulated on my Deck with a few visual mods.
Went off track a fair amount, so at least I know how to trim my time down. Stay on track.
Right now I’m using a Lancer Evolution GSR '92 with racing tires. (But I figure we should go stock, so everyone who wants to participate doesn’t need to earn CR and tune a car?)
Does anyone know if GT4 suffers from the PAL/NTSC timing differences problem, due to different frame rates?
We obviously got the PAL version of GT4 here in Aus. I know we aren’t all strict leaderboardy here but wondering if my times would be comparable, or if I should, uh, find a US/NTSC version
I don’t know, but I found a whole thread of people arguing about it on GT fan forums in 2005.

I loaded it up and went to Arcade Mode → Time Trial. This only lets me pick new cars, nothing from the older Used merchants that are available in GT Mode.
Closest I could find is the '94 Evo II, and it defaults to using Sports:Medium tyres.
I only had time for one lap, it’s already deep in to the post-midnight AM hours and the eyelids are getting real droopy
I have absolutely no idea if this is at all comparable! Maybe arcade time trial is a decent way to try and maintain a similar environment for everyone? Oh, I didn’t do any of the “quick tune” either, I just loaded it up and hit go
Yeah @rejj, I think Arcade Mode → Time Trial is a good way to go about it. And I’d say choose whatever car and driving options you think you can set your fastest lap time in, since we’re not being super technical here.
It’ll be fun working on PBs together. I figure choosing a “winner” is more about making it easier for someone to choose the next game or some poll options for next game.
I won’t be making a spreadsheet, but I’ll keep track of times and post the podium results next Monday (1/13 at 6a EST). (Unless @andrewelmore wants to return as commish or someone else wants to keep things relatively organized.)
I can barely keep track of my own nose right now haha, go right ahead!
I can make and keep track of the spreasheet. I don’t have as much free time as I had last time but if GT4 clicks with me i’m sure as hell gonna try to win this
Thanks ana!
Lastly, does everyone still want to alternate score & time attacks each week, or create a separate score attack thread?
I agree that switching up each week would allow folks interested in both to be able to participate more easily, and engage more members overall. But also agree that I like the idea of keeping this as a time attack thread specifically, given the amount of racing games and tracks available to check out.
So here’s a poll:
- Alternate time & score attacks each week here (and edit the thread title to reflect said change).
- Create separate INSERT CREDIT SCORE ATTACK! thread.
Hmm, i think having both an score attack and a time attack challange may be too much given the amount of people we have on the forum. Maybe we could have two threads one for each but alternate the weeks there’s an active challange? Like one week is time attack week but the next one is score attack and so on.
Nice time! I’m going to get some laps in tonight on arcade mode, but I doubt I’ll get close to that.
Is there not a score attack thread?
I think we should try and settle on a car to use, otherwise we’ll all end up in special prototype racecars.
I did one lap in the '99 WRX STi, and beat my above time by about half a minute. Some of that is I made less mistakes, but some of that is that the car simply felt faster.
I like this idea. Let’s do it.
And @tomjonjon , I didn’t see one when I was searching.
@rejj that works. What car yall think we should choose?
Both the Evo II and the '99 WRX were fun. I’d also suggest perhaps the '05 Golf GTI as a non-4wd option. It’s pretty forgiving but not on-rails, rewards you really finding a line and pushing it in to corners.
My one-lap exploration this morning, complete with many mistakes:
Hooked up the PS2 and did a few laps in the STI while listeneing to a dedeco set. This time had a big wall slam
happy to make the call and just say: '99 WRX STi is the car of choice – unless anyone has strong thoughts against?
I ran a lap with the trusty EK type R before catching up to the thread. Many mistakes were made. I’ll try again later with a '99 WRX.
Also had some fun in the photo mode.
