I was planning on trying to win this, but I caught a pretty bad cold this week and just until today i felt like trying it. for some reason, this game loaded in OPL via SMB doesn’t want to run. I think I have a copy of GT4 but I’m not sure if the ps2 i have on my setup still reads discs. Anyway, I emulated it and can’t get used to the handling. I still have a couple of days to try though!
I encourage everyone with even a little interest to give it a try. The physics of “realistic” racing felt weird to me at first, and I’m still grappling with them, but it feels great when I nail a turn.
I couldn’t tell you, the walls and I are very CLOSE friends (I am always hugging them).
Seriously, though, I doubt I will explain it well, but my understanding is that there is an ideal point in which to brake and downshift before each curve. Where that point is is dependent on the shape of the curve. The idea is to brake, downshift, and then turn your wheels to point the direction you want to go and accelerate. Mastering this series of events leads to very fast laps.
This track is also very difficult, with a big variety in types of curves, elevation changes, and it’s also just very long.
Also some curves you can take “flat out,” meaning you actually stay on the gas the whole time through it, but you have to take a very specific route through the curve because of something called “physics”
Did a few runs till I got below 9 mins so I’ll call it here. Normally I don’t like this track cuz it’s sooooo damn long!! But it’s pretty fun playing along with you all while listening to youtube.
Thanks to all who participated! And congrats to @seasons for the blazing P1 time of 8’20.935, followed closely by @rejj coming in at P2 with an 8’27.264, and yours truly well in the distance at 8’44.996.
We’ll take this week off, then I figure in the meantime we’ll either have seasons choose the next game/track or create a poll. Up to y’all .
And I haven’t created the SCORE ATTACK thread because I don’t really play those types of games much, and wouldn’t know what to recommend as a start, or even likely participate myself. I’ll be mainly here doing the time attacks. So if anyone else wants to start that up for this week, you’re more than welcome.
