I believe the official consensus is that "Paper Mario", "Baby Mario" and Mario from the "Mario & Luigi" games are different Marios to "Main Mario".

It would be interesting to try to categorize which Mario games star a specific Mario and which other Mario games are clearly differentiated.
Like, "Donkey Kong"`s Jumpman is the same Mario as the one in "Wrecking Crew", "Golf" and "Pinball", but "Dr. Mario" and "Mario is Missing" are clearly different invididuals. "Super Mario Bros. 2" is not canonical, never happened, but Mario from "Mario+Rabbids" is Main Mario.

@“Kelzor”#p80682 This is not my head canon. Paper Mario 1 was just SMRPG2 to me. So was Mario & Luigi RPG. They‘re the same guys in my head canon. Anything that came in recent years doesn’t matter to me one bit and just seems like they‘re phoning it in. This is a politically secular comment– has nothing to do with the topic at hand, I just like talking about video games since that’s what I come here to do lol.

Looking at the picture, he seems to specifically have trouble throwing his hammer. Maybe the Koopa is just a normal everyday Koopa. Maybe it’s the hammer itself that is cursed. I certainly cursed these hammers plentifully as a young kid.
