Jul '24 Monthly Game Club - The Guardian Legend

Crammed in a little time with this game before the month ended! It’s unlike anything I’ve played—the space shooter level start and then the top down exploration Shock Troopers-esque shooter. Seems unique for the era. I like the way the player controls in the top down, it feels good to explore and bop around.

I’d have never heard of this game if it weren’t for the Monthly Game Club, glad to have played it a little bit at least, and I’d like to keep exploring around. The bat enemies are real jerks!

I’m glad people seem to like it well enough. I played this in the time it was relevant and it definitely felt unique. I was excited that there might be more games like it but the RPG shmup was a design cul-de-sac. Games like Nier Automata kind of hint at Guardian Legend but it’s just a hint. I would have loved to see an overworld far more complex and secret filled

Anyway, I’m excited to see what tomorrows game will be.
