look at this psycho shit
I was doing my annual cleaning of the studio today and thinking how much I hate corporate management and holy cow does this do a better job at illustrating what I was coming up with.
I am filled with murderous intent from reading that, in the sense of just how arbitrary and capricious and manipulative all of that shit is. Every individual point this person identifies as why they hired this person could be a red flag to some other hiring manager somewhere else, but this bastard has the gall to talk about that hiring process as if itās going to apply to any other job other than specifically one they are hiring for.
Job acquisition advice is a lot like golf swing advice: itās all bullshit
No idea what they were hiring for but I would go as so far as to say these are red flag behaviors in every field, nay, every conceivable social situation, from everyone involved, wtf
i did some lurking and the guy had previously been laid off. this is still psycho shit but may be more emblematic of the tech market in a downturn than anything else.
there were many congratulatory comments on the post. iāve heard whispers that the company in question is in dire straights too, so Iām mostly left feeling bummed out for all parties lol.
how i often feel with this stuff. what are we doing to ourselves
Well, Iām switching jobs next week after only being at the arena for a few months. Just looking for something with a little bit of a future (i.e. apprenticeships or learning new skills) and that also can guarantee more hours. I might still work there a bit on weekends just because I like the people and the atmosphere.
Anyway, Iām very glad that during my final week I will be making ice for the hockey rink! I have been very curious about the whole process since I started, and even though everyone Iāve talked to says itās incredibly boring, I still really want to know how it works. Itās quite funny that Iāve worked in a hockey arena exclusively during the three months of the year where there is no ice in there, lol. We were installing the boards today and it brought back a lot of nice childhood memories spent in hockey rinks. Nice way to close out this phase of my ācareer.ā
#7ā¦ Are your references supposed to reach out? thought it was the other way aroundā¦
froggy froggy froggyā¦ā¦maybe one day youāll understand key stakeholder multithreading in line with MEDDPICC methodology in order to align on a mutual success plan built around quantitative action items with clear deliverables
The IATSE animation union (The Animation Guild - Local 839) is gearing up for some very important contract negotiations on Monday. Tonight we held a rally to drum up solidarity.
Shoring up AI provisions is a major focus of these negotiations - there hasnāt been any reported use within the major studios yet, but we know itās right around the corner (itās already being used in game dev). The industry is currently in a major employment downturn (just like most of entertainment), so the stakes already feel high.
However, this has led to some massive engagement across our union - The turnout tonight was the largest in animation guild history.

the killer feature of working blue collar-ass, dumbass-ass jobs is, when you want a new one, you just go and get it. starting september 3rd iām back in the union, seiu local 49ā¦ actually, it might be a different local-- who cares? main thing is now i can stop driving all over the portland metro area everyday, so iām stoked.
Hell yeah!
I got a new job for the upcoming school year. Although itās a temporary position, and Iām still a student, itās more of a āreal jobā than my previous student-work in that itās not a student-worker position. Iāll be an assistant supervisor in the rare books room! Iāll get to do much more interesting work, and get paid a little more, too.
I just found out the most exciting aspect is that I get my own office!!! Iāve never had one of those before.
I have an interview today. Honestly, I wish I didnāt have to go! Iām mad at the state of management at my current job. This week my GM annouced performance based scheduling, where he will be posting a leaderboard weekly to show who is selling enough food/alcohol. Underperfoming employees will not be put on the schedule. This is also incredibly convienent for his best friend, one of the only people who cares about upselling. Weird how that works outā¦
This jeopardises the entirety of the day staff (me included) because 90% of our customers are elderly couples who in fact, do NOT want a bucket of alchohol at 11:30 AM, and do NOT want you in their face begging to pay more for sour cream and bacon on their mashed potatoes. Also we respect our customers and donāt want to make them pay more. Oops!
The turnover rate is insane right now. Our store owner of 27 years has left, my friend with over 10 years with the company is looking at jobs, 90% of my favorite coworkers have already abandonded ship. I went to get boba one day and had a 15 minute conversation with someone Iāve never met who quit three weeks in because of our GM.
Recently our group chat got a very concerning message from a girl calling out our GM for grabbing her by the arm, pulling her into the kitchen so he could yell at her. His best friend has also put her hands on another employee. HR is useless. Nothing has been done.
I would have quit ages ago but I genuinely love the people I work with enough to stay. Iām thinking about dividing my time between both jobs, at least until the last of my favorite people are gone too. This is just over the span of like, 8 months? Itās like watching a train crash lol
It is really impressive how one bad person, combined with lack of process for dealing with a bad person, can just ruin and define the entire culture of a place. It sucks, but you certainly do see it happen all the time. When I hire people I actually put culture fit slightly above ability because you canāt fix a person who doesnāt gel with your team, but people can get better at doing their jobs.
Sorry this is happening, but if I were you I would actually look at other jobs, maybe where some of those ex coworkers are going, because this is the kind of situation that doesnāt get better without intervention (which HR doesnāt seem to want to do) and leads to businesses closing. Like as a customer if I went to a place and they were always trying to upsell me on stuff I would simply stop going there.
I told my friends that as soon as they find another job they have to take me with them lol. There is talk that the GM, his husband, and the DM will all be leaving our company for another job, but I feel like the damage is already done.
But yes I also wouldnāt come back to a restaurant that upsells so aggressively. He literally wants the first sentence out of our mouth to be an upsell. Absolutely not, I actually like making tips. Sorry!
Got an offer to teach three computer science courses at university. It doesnāt pay particularly well but it has some softer benefits, I think.
First, it feels like work with a real purpose, which is nice in contrast to some of the soul crushing corporate work Iāve been doing in the past. Second, it definitely doesnāt hurt to have on the CV. Maybe Iāll even meet some new, nice and interesting people. So Iāll accept the offer and give it a chance for one semester to see how I like it as a side-gig.
Iāll teach the english language courses for international students. That should be fun!
Iāve been in this exact situation before, and my advice from experience is: just go.
I am still friends with people from that job, some 20 years later nowā¦ nobody was ever upset or said āthatās it Iām not talking to you againā because someone quit. Instead, weād all congratulate them for getting out and finding something, anything else.
ādo you have any Hard Skillsā
Oh you mean like welding
I also find more back door, off the books opportunities this way
