Marvelous Detective Comics: Talking about superhero comics you're reading

House of X/Powers of X (affectionately: Hoxpox) is pretty incredible even if you’re not a big X-Men person (I’m not and I thought it was pretty incredible). It’s more about centuries of weird, mutant history than the X-Men specifically.

This is an excellent recommendation for me specifically, thank you

I’m not reading it yet, but I’m pretty blown away from the pages I’ve seen of Absolute Martian Manhunter. Looks like something special.

EDIT: I have now read it and the art is gorgeous and the premise of the story is pretty intriguing.

Hi @Jaffe just wanted to chime in responding to your other podcast where you said that you wanted to see someone make a series about a therapist to superheroes - randomly one of the couple dozen total comic book issues I had as a kid was about something like that!

It was one of the minor also ran x-men teams like x-factor or x-force (cyclops’ younger brother and magneto’s daughter are on the team) and for some reason they all have to talk with a therapist one by one. All of the panels are first person point of view from the therapist guy, just talking heads looking at the camera like it’s an episode of the office or something. No idea why I picked up that issue because I hadn’t ever read anything that came before or after it, and it was just one issue as far as I know, not a series. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it had some shitty outdated ideas about mental health too… but anyway you just reminded me of that comic so wanted to share!

It’s a month later and #2 is out and it’s still really incredible. Moreso than #1. Great art, great writing, great layouts. Some thoughtful social commentary and silly jokes. Very excited for this to keep going.
Here’s my favorite J’onn from this week:

I just finished the last issue of Two-Face. The ending was a bit of a downer for me, but I understand they can’t really radically change the status quo of the character. It also felt like the series should’ve gone on a little longer imo.
