@robinhoodie The CPS2 core is awesome! A bunch of these games always ran a little sketchy for me on emulators but having all of these timeless fighting games running perfectly is bananas! Gigawing and Mars Matrix are blowing my mind as well
good news!
I love the fact that once the psx and Saturn cores are completed (and once I get a mister) the only thing I will need to purchase is a Dreamcast ode and I will be able to play 97% of the āretroā stuff I want to play without (software) emulation
This is an extremely long shot but I might as well post this, does anyone here have a willing-to-sell spare unit of this specific HD15-2-SCART adapter? Right now it is out of stock.
I'm trying to build a mister as cheaply as posible (just the d10 and the ram module outputing analog video from the hdmi port via directvideo) because I don't have a lot of money, and that's the only piece im missing in order to be able to connect it to my pvm, because otherwise I would have to buy a scart to vga cable from RetroRGB and that with shipping is like 60 bucks or I could go with one that costs like 27 dollars shipped in a site called amigakit but I hear that site can take up to a month to ship an order. (the ones that mister addons sells are also out of stock):
My worst case scenario is getting a cheap one not made for the mister and adding the resistor that it needs to work with mister with my cheap soldering iron that barely works
@ē©“ Iām still waiting on mine to ship but Iād be happy to forward it for shipping price (UK) when I get it, my only use case (VGA) was satisfied by a fancy Dreamcast cable.
@Auberji oh, that would be great, thanks so much!!! I wasnāt expecting having any luck finding someone with a spare adapter!
let me know when it arrives and Iāll gladly send the funds and the shipping address!
If anyone is looking for a prebuilt console-like solution this group is making a custom PCB and case for MiSTer and they'll be charging a reasonable price out of the UK. I may buy one as a portable spare

I only just now read a Kotaku article about this whole deal! Looks like something I will want at some point, maybe in a few years once prebuilt stuff like the above is more common, and PS1 support has been completely solved!
Saturn and PSX cores are getting super exciting.
FPGAzumSpass posted really nice PSX GPU benchmark overview. His core for the benchmark is already faster than real hardware most of the cases. Heās really fast and makes feature rich cores so things gonna move along quick I think.
FPGAzumSpass is fast!
Finally bought a MiSTer bundle from misteraddons last night. Iāve been thinking about clearing out some of my original hardware for a while because of the growing clunkiness of using these things. Emulation is generally pretty good (I do a whole lot of emulating on my RG350M) but it hasnāt quite felt good enough for me to actually get rid of the pile of old game consoles I have laying around collecting dust.
Basically everything about the original hardware has gotten expensive at this point, especially the games. But now with scan convertors, ODEs, and flashcarts becoming necessary to have a good time with it, I think the total expense is at a point where the MiSTer is a really, really good deal by comparison. Plus thereās a lingering promise of more consoles being added with near-100% accuracy. Downloading new hardware from the internet is a killer feature for sure. Iām pretty excited about it.
@donrumata Mister didnāt get me to part with all my original hardware, but it locked in that I donāt need to own original games anymore if at all possible. Even original hardware is more for novelty than anything else. The main transformative thing about the MiSTer is that you can connect it to a CRT TV. That plus the abundance of modern replica controllers goes a long way towards making it feel like something more than emulation. The only thing I have found lacking about it had been the lack of save states for all cores. Youāre in for a fun journey of discovery.
@robinhoodie
Shoutout to 8bitdo for making really, really good controllers. Iām also considering picking up one of those SNAC adapters.
@donrumata The receivers are also VERY useful. I am using the NSO NES / SNES controllers synced to their receiver, I use the Retrobit Genesis Controller, the 8bitdo PCE controller. Love having so many wireless options. I have also enjoyed hooking up the Neo Geo X sticks, and the Neo Geo Mini pads. Just endless options for getting the controls you want.
Iāve used the 8bitdo SNES Bluetooth over usb, retro bit Saturn over usb, 8bitdo arcade stick over usb, and 8bitdo SNES 2.4 ghz via SNAC all with great success. One thing I will say re: SNAC (and this was pointed out in the most recent RetroRGB roundup) is that the main reason to seek one out is if you want to use a peripheral that relies on tight timings (eg a light gun). Itās also great if you have original hardware that you want to use via its native port, of course. In theory it would certainly reduce lag, but itās pretty much imperceptible with a good USB-based controller, which has also been my experience after trying out both. That being said, I still usually use the SNAC to 2.4ghz for playing SNES on MiSTer so Iām not one to judge!
@kory Light guns are the main reason I am keeping old hardware around. All that edge case stuff. Like even if we get a PS1 core, I am very curious to see if it gets link cable support.
@robinhoodie Yeah, now that I think of it I just found my NES Zapper in a bin (and several sundry pieces of my old Super Scope and Menacerā¦I really hope I have the rest somewhere). It might be time for some light SNACs lol.
My MiSTer came in the mail a couple of days ago, and I have to say:
Iām impressed! Itās certainly tinker-y, but things like the update all script keep a lot of the headaches under control. Iām sort of amazed by the value of what you get with this thing. I think you can safely say itās the future of retro gaming. Thereās just really nothing else like it.
My setup is a little lopsided. Iām using a Schiit Modi/Magni stack for audio over optical, which sounds great, but Iām also using a junky old CRT monitor over VGA. I talked to a guy at a local e-waste recycling center and he put me in touch with someone Iām now meeting this weekend to haul away their old RCA MM36100. That thing does component, composite, s-video, and (S)VGA so itās basically ideal for MiSTer stuff. The catch is that itās 36 inches and almost 200 pounds, but hey, itās free and that goes a long way. Itās also compatible with 15khz sync signals over component, which means you can output a 240p signal without upscaling and itāll handle it fine. Bonus!
In other news, some really compelling updates with both the X68k and Saturn cores:
Both very exciting as these are two systems with great games and horribly expensive hardware/software. Get a MiSTer! Itās pretty amazing!
So much exciting progresses all around! Gotta get ready for X68THOUSAND!
Jotego has been releasing tons of Sega System 16 arcade cores including M2ās System 16 port of SMS Fantasy Zone II.
@kory I bought the SNAC adapters and tried out the light guns and they work fantastically. Its a bi on the fiddly side, so I might stick with USBs for normal game play, but so many of my systems are just going to go in a box now and lord knows when they will ever see the light of day.
