Darkened Skye is a third-person action-adventure video game developed by Boston Animation, with development outsourced to Ukraine. It was released for Microsoft Windows and the Nintendo GameCube in North America in 2002 and the PAL regions in 2003. The game was also packaged with Outlaw Golf. Its title character is a young woman named Skye who lives in a fantasy realm searching for her mother. She does not use firearms, but can perform magic using Skittles candies, as well as use her staff as a melee weapon, though it also becomes an energy weapon when used in conjunction with the Skittles.

You can find devs sounding off in the comments of a few youtube videos about this game.

I mean you gotta give it up for Zool.

[truly weird times](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/obama-campaigns-in-burnout-17-other-games/1100-6199379/). has this happened since?

oh wait that ones good…

hmmm, oh yeah this ad for pizza hut....

is also good - dang it!

There are so many Japanese cooking games I could add to this thread: Motoko-chan no Wonder Kitchen, Yoshinoya, Charumera, Curry House CoCo Ichibanya, etc. Aside from those, I‘ll only mention the Soap shoes from Sonic Adventure 2. They’re why the Sonic franchise has rail-grinding in the first place, but the feature stayed long after Sonic himself stopped wearing the shoes, as if to say Sonic never actually needed the shoes to grind.

@“sabertoothalex”#p37532 I guess Biden Island in Animal Crossing is similar??? I suppose that was not approved by Nintendo though, so it doesn't count.

But yeah that whole scenario of EA putting in ads didn't really go anywhere. Side note - I recently learned that that is basically the antagonist's vision in that corrosive Ready Player One movie. Even the villain's plot is a lame pop-culture reference

Very silly, but also kinda rules

Probably not product placement but not sure what these Stewart’s soda machines are doing in Elebits.

[upl-image-preview url=//i.imgur.com/jHjFJyE.jpeg]

I submitted this a few years ago to the video game soda machine project where I’m sure there are a bunch more examples of odd product placement.

I think this needs to be mentioned again

A few examples for gratuitous product placement come to mind, but perhaps they do not transcend to laughable

...but this one probably does (brandon already mentioned Zool, which was the other classic example that came to mind)

Soap shoes in Sonic Adventure 2 is the most obvious one that springs to mind. I mean, they integrated it into the game pretty well by having a bunch of segments where you grind on rails, and that kind of became a regular thing in the series even without the license, but I'd prefer Sonic to not do that.

Guess who just re-learned about this PowerBar-sponsored rock climbing game?

Not even a fifth as hilarious as the above product placements, but I love Dolucky Baseball for Super Famicom. Each team represents a different animal and corresponding Coca Cola product.

  • - The Coca Cola Doluckies: A team consisting entirely of cats
  • - The Fanta Fire Poochies: A team consisting entirely of dogs, they are also a well-balanced team. Obviously their drink of choice is Fanta.
  • - The Georgia Gorou Yakyuu Kai: The Georgia "Gorou Baseball Association". Composed entirely of bears, they are named after Georgia Select, Coke's Japanese coffee label.
  • - The Vegita Beta Devitrollers: A team of rabbits named after Vegita Beta, Coke's Japanese vegetable-vitamin drink.
  • - The Coke Light Ninja Wakamoto Ikka: The "Ninja Wakamoto Family" (忍者若本一家), a team composed of ninja chickens.
  • - The Sprite Paozouto Longnoses: A powerful team of elephants.
  • - The Hi-C Gumbos: Another powerful team composed of gorillas.
  • - The Aquarius Otokichi-kun tachi: A team of idiot seals all named Otokichi. They don't really excel at anything, but are faster than average. Their drink of choice is obviously Aquarius, a Japanese sports drink from Coke.
@"robinhoodie"#120 what fighting game had pepsiman?
here's a couple more that come to mind:

In Silent Hill 3, Heather Mason had many unlockable costumes, including a [whole slew of licensed western publications ](https://silenthill.fandom.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_3_Secrets_and_Unlockables)like EGM and Game Informer.

again, sorry it's not as hilarious as any of the ones above..... tough act to follow. Posting the Gamespy one because I remember when it was exciting and new... Not posting the IGN one because it's antithetical to my being.
