october spooky game club

Death Crimson you say?

I like how shield is a different way to attack and not a worse one (just takes some time to recharge and you pay in eardrum damage) and not simply another screen clearing bomb which is so common in shooters.

Difficulty is quickly rising making some levels total maddnes, and i still don‘t understand why you build bridges.

Overall quite fun, and addicting even if it’s really ugly.

@“Samograj”#p87125 once you build a bridge, you can cross it and fight a boss (?).

personally, i thought the game wasn't that ugly! at least that transition to night is cool.

### day 3: splatter house (arcade)

[upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/nPXofbc.jpeg]

this game seems a bit scarier than the previous ones (there's some pixely gorey-fleshy stuff), so if you want to skip it, that's cool!

You could say that my understanding of Satan‘s Hollow stopped ||Midway||

Also you are right about sky it is nice but graphics for land and castle have a color palette that i don’t like

i‘ve played a bit of splatter house now, and i can definitively say that the sound effects are kind of funny (like something horrific kills you and you just go ’ahh!')

I played Splatterhouse for an hour but now I'm too sleepy to say anything meaningful about it. I like that our protagonist Rick handles his cleavers like baseball bats.

### day 4: youkai yashiki (famicom disk system)

[upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/heobiYD.jpeg]

(i put this game on the list because i was watching chrontendo and thought 'huh this music's kinda good')

@“NoJoTo”#p87304 too obscure for even mobygames!

@“saddleblasters”#p87305 hopefully it‘s ok that i went with giantbomb instead (if there’s another game wiki thing that‘s preferable, i’ll switch it to that)

no, it‘s just I was looking the game up earlier and noticed there was no mention of it on mobygames, which felt like a big compliment to the game! (one of us should probably fix that though.) also I haven’t been able to find a non fan translated version of the fds rom. the msx rom was easily available, so maybe this will be an excuse to figure out msx emulation. not that it matters much, since it looks like this game isn't that text heavy

I'm just happy this thread exists.

I'd like to try to jump in sometime this month.

@“saddleblasters”#p87313 (pssst! pssst! pssssstttt!)

@“NoJoTo”#p87332 this is probably better than my previous system of just googling “<game name> rom” and clicking whatever the first (ad-filled) link is lol

@“saddleblasters”#p87341 err, i still do that if i can't be bothered to click more than 3 links…

### day 5: castlevania: rondo of blood (pc engine cd)

[upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/r52YldL.jpeg]

(don't worry about waiting for me to post one of these to post about the game, by the btw way!)

### day 6: devil's crush (pc engine)

[upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/2L1CLHb.jpeg]

(i haven't played this yet but daaaanngggggg rondo of blood was _good_)

I played a few rounds of Devil‘s Crush, and while it is definitely the best pick so far if you want a 100% halloween themed game to play, I continue to not really understand pinball! It always feels like the ball falls directly between the flippers, not giving me a chance to hit it. I’m sure this is just because I‘m not good and there are all sorts of subtle techniques you’re supposed to do to keep this from happening. Oh well.

@“KingTubb”#p87121 oh wow, that guy is awesome. I just spent the last hour listening to his random accordion covers and original compositions like this one:

absolutely beautiful music!

I played a bit of SPLATTERHOUSE on the switch and I am terrible at it. I have it set to easy and I still have trouble getting past the second(?) boss. I like how heavy the mechanics feel and how the enemies splat and pop.

I played quite a bit of Devil's Crush on Wii VC back when that was a going concern. Excellent pinball fun. Although I can't remember if I liked Devil or Alien Crush more. I'll have to fire them up again. Does anyone have thoughts on Jaki Crush for Super Famicom?
