Pleasant Paper Rectangles

Yeah I think I love the lizard brain aspect of looking for rare cards but maybe I need to stick to digital stuff where it don’t cost me nothing

Fangamer is producing a physical version of the Balatro Red deck:

Even comes with a few extra jokers

Re: Pokémon: one of my kids is big into it and has started a club at the school, etc. etc.

I made the mistake of making a “fun” deck to play with him and there are some pretty fun Steel-type Pokémon! But turns out that Steel is weak to fire which my son keeps making and… I think I’m a bad dad or player. Or his Aloan Exeggcutor EX is total BS.

I have a lot of the McDonalds happy meal Pokemon cards from a year or two back, because my son doesn’t care about Pokemon. Are they worth anything, or is there anything in them good enough to build a deck off of?

Probably not. You want roughly 1/3d Pokémon, 1/3rd energy, and 1/3rd supporters/tools (if you bias, bias more toward these), and you’ll never get those support cards courtesy of promos because they don’t have fun cartoon characters on them.

I fear this might be old hat for magic fans, but I was reminded of the wonderful art on this card and wanted to share it.

I liked this card art so much that I used the full length version as my lock screen for years just to have an easy way to look at it and go “yeah…”

Well, the art is basically a nude picture painted over, right? I’ll give it points for being interesting and different, something i usually don’t associate with magic cards.

I don’t engage with Magic much anymore, but Rhystic Studies is forever. Nobody does it like Sam does

I bailed only a few months after entering the hobby, but I stayed subscribed to Rhystic Studies and Spice8Rack. Magic is still a wonder of game design, even if it icks me out so thoroughly that I don’t want to play it.

That having been said, I would like a single, modest Commander deck.

(But the card I am looking at is $40.)

Edit: Circling back around to post a Spice8Rack video.

Spice is also great, one of the handful I’ve stayed subscribed to as well. As for Commander, I still have all of my decks, and I’ll probably still play sometimes, but the increased emphasis on cross-overs (along with some other things) has largely made me realize I’m no longer the target audience for the game

Reporting in from the front lines of Pokemon shopping. It is even crazier than I thought. I am of course, here in LA which is a bad place to be for this, but it is a full blown complete wipe out.

If you want to buy the new Pokemon sets, here is what you must do.

Pay 2.5x retail online or in local card shops.

Or monitor your local stores like your life depends on it. This entails driving around every target in your area in the morning when they open, finding a line of guys and hoping that it works out. These guys…. Will be following the truck restocking the Pokemon cards, often even like AirTag stalking them, so they will drive, buy everything, and on to the next one. I missed a restock at the Glendale galleria yesterday, so I drove to eagle rock, where there were eight dudes there thinking someone would maybe come (they did not).

I now know the target in eagle rock stocks on Thursday mornings, the Glendale galleria on Saturday mornings (always, report at 730), sunset western Wednesdays, the vending machines Tuesdays. So you piece together little driving routes and metroidvania maps for an off chance of landing something.

I’m in some discords with folks, who mostly seem to either be in college or want this for their kids. The college kids are crazy because they’re using their FAFSA money on this. That’s crazy… I’ve met kids in line whose dads drive them around for this, and most of them sold sneakers online before doing this, so, so many industrious kids in hoodies.

I have managed, in a week of checking every day, one box. I guess I’m not addicted if I can’t spend the money. This feels like an ARG.
