Another official Puyo Puyo finals event is scheduled for tomorrow, 16:00 Japan time—it's a top-16 (well, top-14) of players who, either through select tournament placings or season points, qualified to compete for a pro license (the somewhat controversial certification required to earn cash prizes for video game tournaments), with licenses going to the winner & runner-up:

@“Personasama”#p108825 I disbelieve!! Why would they call it anything
Because of this thread reviving my interest in Puzzle Bobble, I found out there was a Taito light gun music game???

Relevant to this thread I suppose. It's wild for anyone to have not heard of Tetris.

if you like the idea of a 2x2 cursor, here's 3 different selections:
**Kuru Kuru Twinkle - PS1**

pressing the rotation buttons causes the pieces inside the cursor to flip on the horizontal or vertical axis
**Kollon - Arcade/PSP/DS** (known as "ultimate block party" for the US PSP release)

pressing the rotation buttons causes the pieces within to rotate clockwise/counterclockwise
**Super Puzzle Fighter 2 - Mode Z - DC/PSP/HD versions *ONLY***

Kollon was designed by the planner on Sega Columns, Hisaki Nimiya, and while the game‘s title is ostensibly derived from “korokoro”, I’ve always wondered whether they deliberately chose a name that sounded vaguely like Columns… the PAL PSP version's called “Koloomn”, even.

Magical Drop VI's in the process of launching worldwide on Switch & PC (and may or may not have a launch discount on Switch for owning other Forever Entertainment games, depending on region).
I'm not buying it at launch and the impressions I've seen are far from universally positive, but maybe one of you will have a better time with it.
My tentative, I haven‘t-actually-touched-it-for-myself impression of MD6 is that it’s… okay? Like, it seems like the mechanical fundamentals are sound, which already puts it above some of Forever's other IP games, and even the online seems to be reasonably smooth for those able to find games, but there are a lot of other unpolished or questionable elements to the broader package, like some of the character animations being really shoddy, or the fact that unlocking characters is gated behind a ton of unnecessary busywork which I presume was added for the sake of making the single-player feel more robust, or the complete absence of online options beyond “pick a mode and hope someone shows up”, plus there are audio errors, crash bugs, etc in certain single-player modes.
(The JP version has the usual why-didn't-anyone-proof-this loc issues, as well as a really silly bug where user names written with JP characters don't display properly in the online mode, so nobody knows who they're playing.)
They've already promised a full year of free updates, so like their other games, they should eventually address at least some of these issues, but even at this point, it's not nearly as off-putting as Panzer Dragoon or whatever.
@“gsk”#p113477 interesting. I‘m obviously not compelled by forever in general but I’m curious enough to try it on the cheap

@“gsk”#p113703 Delicious time-limited Puyoman
They're just regular manju, right? Not like they have wild filling or something
@“Personasama”#p113704 The regular ones are standard Hiroshima-style momiji manju, albeit with some tweak to the recipe that people like (IIRC it used some particular type of honey or something?). They did used to run a gimmick at their shops where they'd put weird fillings in them on the 24th of each month, though.
I recently dumped a bunch of roms into the Emulation Station frontend on my PC, and through playing a buncha junk with reckless abandon I found a game called Dolucky no Puzzle Tour 94‘ for Super Famicom. I really get a kick out of the way that you’re trying to keep blocks from touching the bottom of the screen, instead of the typical “collect blocks that correlate with one another on the bottom of the screen”. It's a neat game!
https://youtu.be/UD04yva1dbA?t=1408
I also learned by discovering this game that Dolucky the cat was the mascot for Zoom, who were the developers of Mister Mosquito, so that's fun! And I guess Puzzle Tour 94' was Dolucky's last game, how sad...
@“Arino4u”#p116240 that looks (and sounds) like some frantic fun! The gameplay reminds me of Quarth, which has a similar mechanic of “filling in” dropping shapes to prevent them from reaching the bottom. There’s also a hint of Meteos in there…dang, I really miss Meteos…
@“Arino4u”#p116240 in other games he‘s just called “neco”, this is the first I’ve heard of him having another name! Curious. He's unlockable in zero divide and some other games. https://youtu.be/Zse30OU1OKc
Tetris THE ABSOLUTE The Grand Master 2 PLUS is coming to Arcade Archives (PS4/Switch) on June 1… at this rate, might we get TGM3 by the end of the year?
Puzzle Bobble Everybubble, the latest new, made-by-Taito, not-a-Touhou Puzzle Bobble game, comes out in a few hours in Japan and whenever the 23rd clocks over elsewhere—they've added 4p co-op & (local-only) 2v2 modes, 1v1 online play, a gimmick Space Invaders crossover minigame, etc but it's hardly doing anything revolutionary: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/puzzle-bobble-everybubble-switch/
The SNES/SFC Puzzle Bobble port they were promoting as a physical/pre-order bonus is also going on sale as a standalone, should you specifically want that version: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/puzzle-bobble-bust-a-move-16-bit-console-version-switch/
Magical Drop VI's gone up and down from the Switch eShop for whatever reason... the developer's been more diligent about patching the PC version, anyhow (ie they've patched it once, instead of not at all).
