@“Mnemogenic”#p77302 yes. Monster Rancher is not a Pokemon clone, it is a tecmo derby stallion horse betting clone. The recent kaiju rancher announcement further goes to show that pokemon and all monster “mongames” as the zoomers call them, are based on kaiju….

Hermit Hopperhead falls into this category. Everywhere in games magazines at the time for famously not getting localized for North America, I found a copy of it years ago only to find out it’s… just okay.

I missed this comment earlier, and now that I have seen it: *Punky Skunk* is about as direct an example of this category as you can get. It was originally developed for the Super Nintendo in mind and even got a Satellaview demo, but releasing so late in the console's life, it was ultimately moved to the PlayStation. The end product isn't that good, although you really can't blame that on the change in platform.

    The Hokuto no Ken game is good and looks really fantastic. Fantastic texture work.

    I have only played about 10 minutes of Kiganjo because I didn't have time to really get into it but I want to give it a proper go. It's a first person grid based (if I remember right) samurai game except it has Resident Evil style exploration and while it looks like a dungeon crawler, the levels appeared to be more akin to MGS and guards have dialogue. I could be wrong on what the game actually is but that's what it felt like with 10 minutes play.

    Shingata Kururinpa is a great little puzzle game.

    I played both the Parasite Eves for the first time in the last couple of years and if you haven't played them, definitely do.

    Also, very normie suggestion but the original Resident Evil has such a cool vibe that none of the other have. The mix of special ops guys fighting zombies in a mansion full of just slightly _off_ decor choices gives it a really otherworldly feel that the series left behind immediately afterwards. Has really great mundane spaces in almost garish colours. Great vibe.

    In all seriousness No one Can Stop Mr. Domino is my favorite PS1 game but that's probably because I have only played a very small amount of PSX games. and thanks to this thread I'll now have to download like 50gb worth of ISOs

    In an alternate universe, Rollcage was as finely tuned and as big a hit as Wipeout and in 2022 we would have Rollcage HD and Rollcage VR. Nobody told me this was also Psygnosis… it's basically Wipeout with incredible PSX explosions. This game makes me feel like my little PS Classic is going to explode.

    Well, _Wipeout_ is my favorite racing game series of all times, but I have never laughed out loud as much playing it as I did while playing _Rollcage_ the other night for a couple hours. One time an explosion literally propelled me across the finish line into a last second first place at 500kph.

    I recommend picking the car with the highest Grip stat (not the default choice) to cut down on the wonky floatiness a bit.

    Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012.

    After Twisted Metal 2 the developers at Singletrac stopped working with Sony. Twisted Metal continued with 989 studios taking over development duties and Singletrac made Rogue Trip. RT is MUCH better than Twisted Metal 3. It’s very similar in aesthetic and gameplay, but with a Crazy Taxi-esque twist where you can pick up tourists to earn money for upgrades.

    You can blow up cars as a hot dog truck while Mighty Mighty Bosstones play!

    of my last post, the majority of them I haven‘t played very much with the exception of Bemani games like Beatmania and Pop’n Music which I played a ton, 1 on 1, Mystery Dungeon, Pocket Station games, and Evil Zone. A lot of those games ont he list I get confused with one another pretty frequently lol.

    My real recommendations would be less obscure games. Here's ones I played as a ton.

  • - I've always sung the praises of Jackie Chan Stuntmaster, it was one of a handful of Playstation games I had as a kid in elementary school. But recently they brought it up on the podcast!
  • - Digimon World 3. Also had this in elementary school but didn't get too far until I revisited it as an adult. Very interestingly weird RPG world.
  • - I love Groove Jigoku V. I mainly played the PSP version in HS and not sure if I wanna go through that tedium again, but I've dipped into the Playstation original each time I feel like picking it up again.
  • - Rockman 8 has always been super underrated. Beautifully animated game
  • - Everybody knows _Silhouette Mirage_ right
  • - Has anybody posted _Tail of the Sun_ yet

    • When I did freelance repairs and mods for an import game shop, one day when I was at the store a customer came in and asked "do you have the irritating stick" to my friend behind the counter and I said "I've got an _Irritating Stick_ for ya....." and no one seemed amused at all besides myself.

    Team Buddies is an excellent real time combat game. You have to stack blocks to build soldiers and weapons, and protect your base. It's a good time and even supports up to 4 players.

    **Dino Crisis 2** rules. It's an action game and very different from the original Dino Crisis and Resident Evil games. Blast dinosaurs to get points to buy guns.
