Running & Talking, Walking & Jumping: Sploring Within 3 Axes of Constraint

not gonna bury the lede, this thread is about 3D Platformers but my goodness I hate that term.

Mostly wanted a place to highlight the type of games I love where you get to fully explore a full space by going on rooftops unlocking areas by talking with locals, and explore interiors too!

I think its fairly well established that there are more 3D exploration focused games now then there ever has been and I will try and keep this thread updated with news, releases, and demos!

I won’t leave this thread without one bizarre new release to get folks enticed though and will shout out a game mentioned in Thorhighheels’ most recent video

also do want to say again that Infinity Nikki, while being a predatory gasha game is really really scratching this itch for me with so much to do and so much to see. I liked Genshin Impact for the 10 hours I played but the conversation surrounding it and the horrible character designs got me to drop it entirely! which sucks cause I love how the Breath of The Wild structure is inspiring so many great games like A Short Hike, Lil Gator Game, and Natsumon

also definitely more straight up “boomer 3d platformer collectathon” but I’m looking forward to this game and excited to try out the demo!

Oh yeah! This is my thing too! I love a 3d hopping and exploration game. I also hate the term 3d platformer as it’s too broad to be useful. My preference is ones that are casual with emphasis on exploration and collecting little treats that improve some ability. I’ll try to remember some deep cuts that you may not have played but are good.

Tchai you play a native to a small archipelago whose encroaching western maternity is enslaving your people. It seems dark but is light and playful to its subject matter without being insulting. There’s an emphasis on gliding, sailing and climbing…and animal spirit possession. It’s very much. BotW meets wind waker but without the budget to flesh everything out like AAA game. It’s very fun if you can look past its slightly ropey controls and its short length. I suggest adding it to your wishlist until it goes on sale if it appeals to you. 20 seems like the price point it should have shot for.
