When I see cops ready their weapon and bend their knees, I think they must be using resident evil 1 controls
The year is 1997, the location is a dingy bowling alley in central florida. I‘m in the first grade. It’s Devin Coward‘s birthday party. There is a silver cd player boom box on the floor. Devin opens up his next present, the CD Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men. Twelve seven year olds flailing around on the dirty bowling alley floor, trying to breakdance to Baha Men.
There’s what at the time I called a “50 cent machine”. This 50 cent machine would forever be the best and most exciting of any gachapon-like machine in my entire life. I only today decided to try and find images of these objects. Never in my life will I ever get something this good for 50 cents, nor will I ever get anything this good from a gachapon ever again.
I still remember the excitement.
So what these are, is little slide viewer toys in the shape of the Game Boy Pocket, produced by Takara Tomy, which contain slides of Key Art from mostly N64 games, the majority of which being Japanese exclusive key art.
This is a very before the internet thing to be excited about. It seemed like the secrets of the universe were contained in these plastic toys. Art I‘d never seen before or a long time after until I started importing games.
And here’s the reason why I decided to write this up right here in this silly thread:
because they look like a little game boy pocket. I had Red, Green, Black, and Gray. Gameboy Pocket being my first video game console, along with this, and the KFC Pokemon Promotion using a game boy pocket as the display case, all contributed to the Game Boy Pocket being the most prominent in my mind forever.
Now here's the juicy little morsels contained inside. The content you all came to this forum for. The content you crave.

had to immortalize this here because they're actually quite difficult to find photos of, have become quite expensive, and it's a definitively pre-internet way to view key art. they later made gameboy color versions that I've never seen irl.
met a bob-omb in the bar bathroom this weekend
